Setup

Connecting Antennas, Power, and Audio Output

Video: Shure How to Setup QLX-D Wireless Systems. This video demonstrates the initial setup of the Shure QLX-D wireless system, including connecting antennas, power supply, and audio output.

  1. Connect Antennas: Attach the antennas to the A and B connectors on the receiver.
  2. Connect Power Supply: Connect the power supply to the receiver and then to your power source.
  3. Connect Receiver Audio Output:
    • If connecting to a microphone input, use the XLR output and set the switch to mic.
    • If connecting to an instrument amplifier, use the 1/4-inch output. The position of the mic/line switch does not matter when using the 1/4-inch output.

Powering On and Finding an Open Channel

  1. Once the receiver is connected, press and hold the power button to turn it on.
  2. Press the menu button on the receiver to access the scan function. Press enter to initiate the scan.
  3. The group and channel will appear on the display once the scan is complete.

Installing Batteries and Syncing the Transmitter

  1. Install the batteries into your transmitter and turn it on.
  2. To sync the transmitter, press the sync button on the receiver.
  3. Align the transmitter's IR window approximately 6 inches away from the receiver's IR port.
  4. When the sync is complete, "Good" will display on the receiver, and the blue RF LED will illuminate to indicate connectivity.

Checking Levels

  1. During your sound check, monitor the audio meter and LED on the receiver.
  2. The meter should display at least three bars, and the LED should be green.
  3. If necessary, reduce or increase the gain using the arrow buttons on the front of the receiver.

Network Scan

Video: QLX-D How to use Network Scan. This video explains how to use the Network Scan feature on the Shure QLX-D wireless system to identify clean, compatible frequencies for multiple networked systems.

The Network Scan feature in Shure QLX-D systems helps identify clean, compatible frequencies when working with multiple QLX-D systems. This feature replaces the traditional group scan mode found on other Shure wireless systems.

  1. Network Receivers: To enable this feature, first network your QLX-D receivers together. Connect a Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet cable from the back of each receiver to a network switch. The Ethernet port LEDs will illuminate to indicate connectivity.
  2. IP Addressing: It is recommended to use a DHCP-enabled router, which will automatically assign IP addresses when the receivers are powered on. Manual IP address assignment is also possible. Note that QLX-D receivers must be on the same subnet.
  3. Select Group: To begin the Network Scan, choose a group or custom group on the receiver that will initiate the scan. If you are unsure which group is best to use, consult the online Shure Wireless Frequency Finder tool. To select a group, press the menu button until the group number is flashing. Use the arrow keys to change the group selection, then press enter to save.
  4. Initiate Network Scan: Press the menu button until "Network Scan" appears and is flashing on the display. Press enter to begin the scan.
  5. Frequency Assignment: On the receiver used to scan, press enter to deploy new frequencies. The front panel LEDs of all receivers will blink when the frequencies have been assigned.

Important Notes for Network Scan

  • Network Scan will not appear in the menu options if QLX-D receivers are not networked together.
  • Full deployment of frequencies will not occur if there are not enough open frequencies available for your networked receivers.
  • If this occurs, select another group and re-scan.

Operating Instructions

Once the Shure QLXD2/B58 Handheld Transmitter is properly set up and synced with its receiver, it is ready for operation. Ensure the transmitter is powered on and the receiver displays a stable RF signal and appropriate audio levels. Speak or sing into the microphone as you would with any professional vocal microphone. The system is designed to provide clear, high-fidelity audio transmission.

Battery Information

  • The QLXD2 offers up to 9 hours of continuous use with 2 AA alkaline batteries (included).
  • For extended use, it provides up to 10 hours of continuous operation with a Shure SB900 lithium-ion rechargeable battery (not included).

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Shure QLXD2/B58 Handheld Transmitter, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Regularly wipe the microphone body with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Storage: Store the transmitter in a dry, cool place away from extreme temperatures and humidity. If storing for extended periods, remove the AA alkaline batteries to prevent leakage.
  • Battery Care: If using rechargeable batteries, follow the manufacturer's guidelines for charging and storage to maximize battery life.
  • Capsule Inspection: Periodically inspect the microphone capsule for any debris or damage.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Shure QLXD2/B58 Handheld Transmitter, consider the following:

  • No Audio/Intermittent Signal:
    • Ensure the transmitter and receiver are powered on and properly synced.
    • Check battery levels in the transmitter.
    • Verify that the receiver's audio output is correctly connected to your sound system.
    • Confirm that the transmitter and receiver are within the specified operating range (100 m / 330 ft. line of sight) and that there are no obstructions.
  • Interference/Noise:
    • Perform a new frequency scan to find a clear channel.
    • Ensure all QLX-D receivers are networked together for optimal frequency coordination using the Network Scan feature (refer to the Network Scan section).
    • Check for nearby sources of RF interference (e.g., Wi-Fi routers, other wireless devices, LED lighting).
  • Network Scan Not Appearing: Ensure all QLX-D receivers are properly networked together with Ethernet cables and recognized by the system.
  • Full Frequency Deployment Failure: If the system cannot deploy enough open frequencies, try selecting a different group and re-scanning.
