Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and operation to ensure proper use and longevity of your filter system.
Safety Information
- Always disconnect power to the pump before performing any service or maintenance on the filter system.
- Ensure all connections are secure and watertight to prevent leaks.
- Do not operate the filter system if any part is damaged or malfunctioning.
- Keep children away from the filter system during operation and maintenance.
- Refer to local codes and regulations for proper installation and electrical requirements.
Product Components and Features
The XtremepowerUS 19-inch Sand Filter System includes a durable filter tank, a 7-way multi-port valve, and a pressure gauge for monitoring system performance. The system is designed for efficient flow and drainage, featuring a 1.5-inch diameter main internal pipe and a built-in drain for simplified winterizing and servicing.

Sand Loading
- Ensure the internal standpipe and laterals are correctly positioned at the bottom of the tank.
- Carefully add the recommended amount of filter sand (up to 175 lbs for the 19-inch model) into the tank, ensuring the standpipe remains centered.
- Fill the tank with water to just above the sand level before installing the multi-port valve head.
Operating Instructions: 7-Way Multi-Port Valve Functions
The 7-way multi-port valve allows for various operational modes. Always turn off the pump before changing valve positions.
- Filter: This is the standard operating mode for daily filtration. Water is purified by passing through the sand media.
- Backwash: Reverses the flow of water through the filter to clean the sand bed and remove trapped debris. Perform when pressure gauge reading is 8-10 PSI above normal operating pressure.
- Rinse: Used after backwashing to flush out any remaining debris from the valve and pipes before returning to filter mode.
- Waste: Drains water directly from the pool, bypassing the filter. Useful for lowering pool water level or vacuuming heavy debris directly to waste.
- Re-Circulate: Circulates pool water without passing it through the filter media. Useful for mixing chemicals.
- Closed: Stops all water flow to and from the filter. Use this setting only when the pump is off and for servicing.
- Winter: Prepares the system for winterization by allowing water to drain from the valve and filter.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your sand filter system.
- Backwashing: Backwash the filter regularly, typically when the pressure gauge reads 8-10 PSI higher than its clean operating pressure.
- Sand Replacement: Filter sand typically needs to be replaced every 3-5 years, depending on usage and water quality.
- Winterizing: Before freezing temperatures, drain all water from the filter tank and pump. Set the multi-port valve to the 'Winter' position or remove the handle to relieve pressure. Store the pump and filter components in a dry, protected area if possible.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect all hoses, clamps, and connections for wear, cracks, or leaks. Replace worn parts as needed.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Low Water Flow | Clogged skimmer/pump basket, dirty filter sand, low water level in pool. | Clean baskets, backwash filter, add water to pool. |
| High Pressure Gauge Reading | Dirty filter sand. | Perform backwash and rinse cycle. |
| Water Leaks | Loose connections, worn O-rings, cracked housing. | Tighten connections, replace O-rings, inspect for damage. |
| Cloudy Pool Water | Insufficient filtration time, dirty filter sand, improper chemical balance. | Increase filtration time, backwash filter, test and adjust pool chemistry. |
