3. Setup Instructions

3.1 Battery Installation

  1. Ensure the walkie talkie is powered off.
  2. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the device.
  3. Align the 1100mAh Li-Ion battery with the contacts and gently press it into place until it clicks securely.
  4. Slide the battery cover back on until it locks.

3.2 Charging the Battery

The RT24 Plus walkie talkies are rechargeable and come with USB charging cradles. You can charge the walkie talkie directly or the battery separately.

  1. Connect the USB charging cable to the charging cradle and a compatible USB power source (e.g., wall adapter, power bank, car charger, laptop).
  2. Place the walkie talkie or the battery into the charging cradle.
  3. The indicator light on the cradle will show the charging status. Charging typically takes 2-3 hours.

A full charge provides approximately 8-12 hours of continuous use or up to 74 hours in standby mode.

3.3 Attaching Accessories

  • Belt Clip: Attach the belt clip to the designated slot on the back of the walkie talkie for convenient carrying.
  • Headset: Plug the headset into the earpiece/mic jack on the side of the walkie talkie. Ensure it is fully inserted for proper function.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Power On/Off and Volume Adjustment

  1. To power on the device, rotate the Power/Volume knob clockwise until you hear a click.
  2. Continue rotating the knob clockwise to increase the volume, and counter-clockwise to decrease it.
  3. To power off, rotate the knob counter-clockwise until you hear a click.

4.2 Channel Selection

The RT24 Plus features 16 channels. To communicate with other walkie talkies, all devices must be set to the same channel.

  1. Rotate the Channel Selection knob to choose your desired channel (1-16).
  2. The walkie talkie will typically announce the selected channel number.

4.3 Transmitting and Receiving

  1. To transmit (speak), press and hold the Push-To-Talk (PTT) button located on the side of the walkie talkie.
  2. Speak clearly into the microphone, holding the device approximately 5-10 cm from your mouth.
  3. Release the PTT button to stop transmitting and listen for a response.
  4. When receiving, the indicator light may illuminate, and you will hear the incoming transmission through the speaker or headset.

4.4 Privacy Codes (CTCSS/DCS)

The RT24 Plus supports 50 CTCSS (Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System) and 105 DCS (Digitally Coded Squelch) codes. These codes help filter out unwanted conversations from other users on the same channel, ensuring more private communication. These codes are typically programmed using specialized software and a programming cable (sold separately).

5. Maintenance and Care

5.1 General Cleaning

  • Wipe the device with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Ensure the earpiece/mic jack cover is securely closed when not in use to protect against dust and moisture.

5.2 Battery Care

  • Avoid fully discharging the battery frequently to prolong its lifespan.
  • Store the battery in a cool, dry place when not in use for extended periods.
  • Do not expose the battery to extreme temperatures.

5.3 Water Resistance

The Retevis RT24 Plus is designed to be water-repellent (IPx4 rated). This means it can withstand splashes of water from any direction. It is not designed for submersion. Ensure all port covers are sealed to maintain water resistance.
