This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your Intel processor, along with important specifications and support information.

Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of your processor. Follow these steps carefully.

1. Processor Installation (LGA 1151 Socket)

The processor utilizes an Independent Loading Mechanism (ILM) to ensure consistent pressure across the socket contacts. Refer to the video below for a visual guide.

Video 1: Intel Processor and Liquid Cooling Solution Installation Guide.

This video demonstrates the installation procedure for the processor in an LGA2011 socket and the Intel RTS2011LC liquid cooling solution. While the video references LGA2011, the general principles for handling and seating the processor in an LGA 1151 socket are similar. Always refer to your motherboard's specific instructions for socket handling.

  1. Prepare the Socket: Unlatch the hinge lever. Do not open this lever past the resistance point (approximately 35 degrees) to avoid damaging the ILM. Then, unlatch the load lever and press down on the hinge lever to lift the load plate. Once the load plate is raised, carefully grip the front and open it fully.
  2. Handle the Processor: When handling the processor, never touch the socket contacts or the underside components/contact lands, as this could cause damage. Hold the processor by its edges.
  3. Align and Seat the Processor: Align the processor to the socket, matching up the pin 1 indicators (usually a small triangle or arrow on the processor and socket). Carefully lower the processor into the socket. Ensure the processor is properly aligned and its corners are fully seated in the socket.
  4. Close the Socket: Carefully close the load plate with the ILM cover over the processor and latch the load lever. The ILM cover is designed to automatically unlatch and pop off. If it does not, remove it manually. Then, close and latch the hinge lever to complete the processor installation.

2. Cooler Installation

Your processor comes with a standard fan/heatsink. For high-performance installations, an Intel liquid cooling solution (e.g., Intel RTS2011LC) may be used. The installation steps below are general; always refer to the specific cooler's manual for detailed instructions.

  1. Prepare the Motherboard: Ensure the motherboard is ready for cooler installation. For liquid coolers, attach the fan assembly to the radiator using the appropriate screws.
  2. Install Hold-Down Bracket (if applicable): For liquid coolers, ensure the hold-down bracket feet are set to LGA 1151 (or LGA 2011 if using that specific cooler and motherboard). Place the bracket over the socket and processor, aligning the feet to the heatsink attachment points. Insert the fasteners through the bracket and screw them in until they just catch, allowing the bracket to remain loose.
  3. Apply Thermal Interface Material (TIM): Apply the provided thermal interface material (TIM) to the top of the processor's integrated heat spreader (IHS). Follow the TIM manufacturer's instructions for application.
  4. Position and Secure the Pump/Heatsink: Position the pump (for liquid coolers) or heatsink (for air coolers) over the processor. For liquid coolers, align the flanges on the pump to the openings on the hold-down bracket. Rotate the pump slightly counter-clockwise from the correct orientation, then lift the bracket and rotate the pump clockwise so the flanges slide under the bracket teeth.
  5. Tighten Fasteners: With the pump/heatsink lined up, tighten the hold-down screws in a cross pattern to lock the cooler firmly into place. Ensure even pressure.
  6. Mount Radiator (for liquid coolers): Position the radiator and fan assembly inside the chassis where a chassis fan was originally located. Line up the screw holes on the chassis with the holes on the corners of the radiator and insert the shorter screws (with washers if needed) through the outside of the chassis into the radiator to mount it in position.
  7. Connect Power Cables: Connect the fan power cable to the corresponding connector coming from the pump (for liquid coolers). Then, connect the power cable from the pump/heatsink to the CPU fan power header on the motherboard to complete the installation.
