Setup

Before you begin breaking open your geodes, ensure you have a safe and appropriate workspace.

Operating Instructions: Breaking Open Geodes

Follow these steps to safely and effectively break open your geodes and reveal the crystals inside.

  1. Position the Geode: With the geode wrapped in a sock or cloth, place it on your prepared sturdy work surface.
  2. Strike with Caution: Using a hammer, gently tap the geode. Start with lighter taps and gradually increase force if needed. Aim for the middle of the geode. The goal is to create a clean break, not to shatter it into many small pieces.
  3. Use a Chisel (Optional): For particularly tough geodes, you may need to use a chisel. Place the chisel against the geode (still wrapped) and strike the chisel with the hammer. Rotate the geode and repeat until a crack forms.
  4. Reveal the Crystals: Once the geode breaks open, carefully unwrap it. Observe the crystal formations inside. Each geode is unique!
  5. Display Your Discoveries: Use the included display stand to showcase your favorite geode halves.
