This carrier is engineered to transport up to three bicycles safely and efficiently. It features an advanced towbar coupling for easy mounting and immediate stability, removable frame holders for simple bike loading, and extendable wheel trays to accommodate various bicycle wheelbases. The carrier also includes a practical tilt mechanism, operated by a foot pedal, allowing easy access to your vehicle's trunk even with bikes loaded.

2. Safety Information

  • Vehicle Compatibility: This carrier is not suitable for vehicles with low tailgates, such as the VW T6 or Mercedes Viano. Always verify compatibility with your vehicle's towbar and tailgate design before use.
  • Load Capacity: Do not exceed the maximum load capacity of 60 kg for the carrier or the maximum permissible towbar load of your vehicle, whichever is lower.
  • Secure Attachment: Ensure the carrier is securely attached to the towbar and the locking lever is fully engaged before loading any bicycles.
  • Bike Securing: Always use all provided frame holders and wheel straps to secure bicycles firmly to the carrier. Check that bikes are stable and do not obstruct vehicle lights or license plate.
  • Electrical Connection: Ensure the 13-pin electrical connector is properly inserted and all lights are functioning correctly before driving.
  • Driving Behavior: Adjust your driving speed and style to account for the added weight and dimensions of the carrier and bikes. Avoid sudden braking or sharp turns.
  • Regular Checks: Periodically check all connections and fastenings during longer journeys.

3. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to correctly install your Thule EasyFold XT 3B bicycle carrier:

  1. Unfolding the Carrier: Carefully unfold the carrier from its compact storage position. Ensure all components click into place.
  2. Mounting on Towbar: Place the carrier onto the towbar. The design allows for immediate stability, making it easier to adjust the carrier before fully locking the tension lever.
  3. Securing to Towbar: Push down the locking lever firmly until it engages. Verify that the carrier is securely fixed and cannot be easily removed from the towbar.
  4. Connecting Electrical Plug: Insert the 13-pin electrical plug into your vehicle's towbar socket. Check that all rear lights (brake, indicators, tail lights) on the carrier are operational.
  5. Adjusting Wheel Trays: Extend the wheel trays as needed to match the wheelbase of your bicycles.
  6. Installing License Plate: Attach your vehicle's license plate to the designated area on the carrier.

4. Operating Instructions

Loading and securing your bicycles:

  1. Prepare the Carrier: Ensure the carrier is securely mounted and the wheel trays are extended.
  2. Position Bicycles: Place the first bicycle onto the carrier, positioning its wheels in the designated trays.
  3. Secure Frame: Use the removable frame holders to grip the bicycle frame. Adjust the holder's position and tighten the knob until the bike is firmly held.
  4. Secure Wheels: Use the long ratchet straps to secure the bicycle wheels to the wheel trays. Pull the straps tight to prevent movement.
  5. Load Additional Bikes: Repeat the process for the second and third bicycles, ensuring proper spacing and secure attachment for each.
  6. Tilt Function: To access your vehicle's trunk, press the foot pedal located at the base of the carrier. The carrier will tilt, allowing clearance for the tailgate. Return the carrier to its upright position until it locks securely before driving.
