Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the performance and longevity of your MHU-32 receiver. It is recommended to have this unit installed by a qualified marine audio technician.

Mounting the Unit:

  1. Choose a suitable location on your vessel that is protected from direct impact and allows for proper ventilation. Ensure the location is accessible for wiring.
  2. Use the included aluminum U-bracket to secure the unit. Drill appropriate holes for the bracket and mounting screws.
  3. Insert the receiver into the mounting hole and secure it with the U-bracket and nuts, ensuring a snug fit without overtightening.

Wiring Connections:

  • Utilize the quick-disconnect wiring harness for all electrical connections. This harness simplifies installation and future servicing.
  • Connect the power wire (typically yellow) to a constant 12V DC source.
  • Connect the accessory/ignition wire (typically red) to a switched 12V DC source.
  • Connect the ground wire (typically black) to a clean chassis ground point.
  • Connect speaker wires to the appropriate speaker outputs, ensuring correct polarity. The unit supports 4-channel high-level speaker output.
  • For rear USB playback, connect your USB device to the rear USB input.
  • If using the second zone audio output, connect it to an external amplifier or speakers for that zone.

Important: Always ensure all connections are secure and properly insulated to prevent short circuits and damage to the unit or vessel's electrical system. Refer to your vessel's wiring diagram for power source identification.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your Soundstream MHU-32 receiver.

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the unit's exterior. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents, which can damage the finish or display. Ensure the unit is off before cleaning.
  • Water Exposure: While the unit is IP65 marine-grade waterproof, avoid prolonged submersion or high-pressure water jets. Ensure all covers and seals are properly secured.
  • Connections: Periodically check all wiring connections for corrosion or looseness. Clean any corroded terminals and re-secure connections as needed.
  • Storage: If storing your vessel for an extended period, ensure the unit is powered off. The EPROM memory will retain your settings.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your MHU-32 receiver, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps before seeking professional service.

No Power:

  • Check the vessel's fuse box for blown fuses.
  • Verify that the power and ground connections are secure and correctly wired.
  • Ensure the accessory wire is receiving 12V when the ignition is on.

No Sound or Distorted Sound:

  • Check speaker wire connections for proper polarity and secure contact.
  • Ensure the volume is turned up and not muted.
  • Verify that the correct audio source is selected.
  • Check audio settings (Bass, Treble, Balance, Fader) for unusual configurations.
  • If using 2-zone audio, ensure the volume for the affected zone is not set to minimum.

Bluetooth Connectivity Issues:

  • Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device and the MHU-32 is in Bluetooth mode.
  • Delete "MHU-32" from your device's paired list and attempt to re-pair.
  • Move your device closer to the receiver to rule out range issues.
  • Restart both the MHU-32 and your mobile device.

USB Playback Errors:

  • Ensure the USB drive is formatted correctly (FAT32 is commonly supported).
  • Verify that the audio files are in a supported format (MP3, WMA).
