5. Setup & Installation
Proper installation is crucial for the performance and longevity of your amplifier. Follow these general guidelines:
5.1 Mounting Location
Choose a dry, well-ventilated location that is protected from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Ensure sufficient airflow around the amplifier for cooling. Securely mount the amplifier to a solid surface in your vehicle.
5.2 Wiring Connections
All wiring should be routed away from sharp edges and moving parts. Use high-quality cables and connectors.
- Power (B+): Connect a fused power cable directly from the positive terminal of your vehicle's battery to the amplifier's B+ terminal. The fuse should be located within 18 inches of the battery.
- Ground (GND): Connect a ground cable of the same gauge as the power cable to a clean, unpainted metal surface of the vehicle's chassis.
- Remote (REM): Connect a remote turn-on wire from your head unit's remote output to the amplifier's REM terminal.
- RCA Inputs: Connect your head unit's RCA outputs to the amplifier's RCA inputs.
- Speaker Outputs: Connect your speakers to the amplifier's speaker output terminals. Ensure correct polarity and impedance matching.

6. Operating Instructions
The ZXX-1000.4 amplifier features various controls to fine-tune your audio system. Refer to the control panel image below for component identification.

Image 6.1: Amplifier control panel with adjustable settings.
6.1 Gain/Level Control
Adjust the LEVEL knob to match the output voltage of your head unit. Start with the knob at minimum and slowly increase until you hear distortion, then back off slightly. This ensures the amplifier receives an optimal signal without clipping.
6.2 Bass EQ (Bass Boost)
The BASS EQ knob allows you to boost low frequencies from 0 to 12dB. Use this feature to enhance bass response, but avoid excessive boosting which can lead to distortion or speaker damage.
6.3 Phase Control
The PHASE switch (0°/180°) adjusts the phase of the subwoofer output. Experiment with both settings to find the one that provides the most impactful and coherent bass response with your main speakers.
6.4 Subsonic Filter
The SUBSONIC filter (10Hz-40Hz) removes ultra-low frequencies that are inaudible and can cause damage to subwoofers. Adjust this to protect your subwoofers and improve sound clarity.
6.5 Low Pass Filter (LPF)
The LPF knob (30Hz-250Hz) controls the upper frequency limit for the amplifier's output. This is typically used for subwoofers to ensure they only reproduce low frequencies, preventing them from playing mid-range or high-range sounds.
7. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Hifonics Zeus ZXX-1000.4 amplifier, follow these maintenance tips:
- Cleaning: Regularly wipe the amplifier's exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Ventilation: Ensure that the amplifier's heat sink fins are free from dust and debris to maintain proper cooling.
- Connections: Periodically check all power, ground, remote, RCA, and speaker connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
- Environment: Keep the amplifier in a stable environment, away from extreme temperatures and moisture.
8. Troubleshooting
If you experience issues with your amplifier, consult the following common problems and solutions before contacting support:
8.1 No Power/No Sound
- Check the main fuse near the battery and the fuses on the amplifier.
- Verify that the power (B+), ground (GND), and remote (REM) wires are securely connected and receiving proper voltage.
- Ensure the head unit is turned on and sending a remote signal to the amplifier.
- Check RCA input cables for proper connection and damage.
- Verify speaker wire connections and ensure no shorts.
8.2 Distorted Sound
- Reduce the gain/level setting on the amplifier.
- Check for proper impedance matching between the amplifier and speakers.
- Ensure speaker wires are not shorted or touching the vehicle chassis.
- Adjust bass boost or crossover settings to prevent over-driving speakers.
8.3 Amplifier Overheating
- Ensure adequate ventilation around the amplifier. Clear any obstructions.
- Check speaker impedance; running too low an impedance can cause overheating.
- Reduce the volume or gain settings.
