Firmware Updates
For optimal performance and compatibility with newer camera models, it is recommended to ensure your lens firmware is up-to-date. Firmware updates can be performed using the optional Tamron TAP-in Console. Refer to the TAP-in Console manual for detailed instructions.
Operating the Lens
Autofocus (AF) and Manual Focus (MF)
The lens features an AF/MF switch to select between autofocus and manual focus modes. In AF mode, the HLD (High/Low torque-modulated Drive) provides stable and precise focusing. The Full-time Manual Focus override allows for fine adjustments even when in AF mode, without needing to switch to MF.
- Set the switch to AF for automatic focusing.
- Set the switch to MF for manual focusing. Rotate the focus ring to adjust focus.

Vibration Compensation (VC)
The built-in VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism helps reduce camera shake, allowing for sharper images, especially in low-light conditions or when shooting handheld. Use the VC ON/OFF switch to activate or deactivate this feature.
- Set the switch to VC ON to enable vibration compensation.
- Set the switch to OFF to disable vibration compensation.
Zooming
Rotate the zoom ring to adjust the focal length between 10mm (ultra-wide) and 24mm (wide-angle). The current focal length is indicated on the lens barrel.

Maintenance
Cleaning the Lens
The front element of this lens features a Fluorine Coating, which repels water and oil, making it easier to clean. To clean the lens surfaces:
- Use a blower brush to remove dust and loose particles.
- For smudges or fingerprints, gently wipe with a clean, soft microfiber cloth specifically designed for optical lenses. A small amount of lens cleaning solution can be applied to the cloth, not directly to the lens.
- Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, as these can damage the lens coatings.

Storage
When not in use, attach both the front and rear lens caps and store the lens in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. The lens features moisture-resistant construction, but prolonged exposure to moisture should be avoided.

|---|---|---|
| Lens does not focus automatically. | AF/MF switch is set to MF. Camera is not in AF mode. Lens or camera firmware is outdated. | Set the lens AF/MF switch to AF. Ensure your camera is set to an autofocus mode. Check for and install any available firmware updates for both the lens (via Tamron TAP-in Console) and your camera. |
| Images are blurry despite using VC. | VC switch is OFF. Extreme camera shake. Shutter speed too slow for conditions. | Ensure the VC switch is set to ON. Use a faster shutter speed or a tripod in very low light. |
| Lens not recognized by camera. | Improper mounting. Outdated firmware. Dirty electrical contacts. | Re-attach the lens, ensuring it clicks securely. Update lens and camera firmware. Clean the electrical contacts on both the lens and camera with a clean, dry cloth. |
