High-Definition LCD Screen Display Elements

Image: Detailed view of the LCD screen, highlighting elements such as FAST/SLOW measurement mode, Bar Graph, Time Display, Measurement Value, A/C weighted indicator, Low Battery indicator, and Auto Off indicator.

  • Measurement Value: Large numeric display showing the current sound level in dB.
  • Bar Graph: Analog representation of sound levels.
  • A/C Weighted: Indicates the selected frequency weighting.
  • FAST/SLOW: Indicates the selected time weighting.
  • MAX: Appears when Max Hold function is active.
  • Time/Date: Displays current time and date.
  • Low Battery Indicator: Icon appears when battery power is low.
  • Auto Off Indicator: Icon appears when automatic power-off is enabled.

4.3 Frequency Weighting (A/C)

The meter offers two frequency weighting options:

A/C Weighted Measurement Modes

Image: Explanation of A/C weighting. A-weighted is suitable for environmental noise detection, and C-weighted is suitable for industrial noise detection.

  • Press the A/C button to toggle between A-weighting and C-weighting.
  • A-weighting: Simulates the human ear's response to sound, suitable for environmental noise measurements.
  • C-weighting: Provides a flatter response, suitable for measuring peak sound levels and industrial noise.

4.4 Time Weighting (FAST/SLOW)

The meter offers two time weighting options:

  • Press the F/S button to toggle between FAST and SLOW response times.
  • FAST (2 times/second): Captures rapid changes in sound level, suitable for impulsive noise.
  • SLOW (1 time/second): Provides an averaged reading, suitable for stable noise sources.

4.5 MAX Hold Function

  • Press the MAX button to activate the maximum hold function. The display will show the highest sound level recorded since the function was activated.
  • Press the MAX button again to exit Max Hold mode.

4.6 Backlight

  • Press the Light button (often depicted as a light bulb icon) to turn the LCD backlight on or off.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

  • Ensure the power button is pressed firmly.
  • If using USB power, ensure the cable and adapter are functioning and connected securely.

6.2 Inaccurate Readings

  • Ensure the microphone is not obstructed.
  • Check the selected frequency weighting (A or C) and time weighting (FAST or SLOW) are appropriate for your measurement.
  • Avoid measuring in areas with strong electromagnetic interference.
  • Ensure the meter is held steadily and not subjected to vibrations.

6.3 Display Issues

  • If the display is dim, check battery levels or activate the backlight.
  • If the display shows an 'Over' or 'Under' range indicator, the sound level is outside the meter's measurable range (30-130dB).
