Important Safety Information
Please read and understand all instructions before beginning installation. Failure to follow these instructions could result in electric shock, fire, or serious personal injury. This ceiling fan motor is designed for 220 Volt electrical systems. Do not attempt to install or operate this unit on a 110/120 Volt system without a suitable transformer. Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with all local and national electrical codes.
- Always disconnect power at the main fuse box or circuit breaker before beginning installation or performing any maintenance.
- Ensure all electrical connections are made according to local codes and ordinances, and national electrical codes.
- The mounting structure must be capable of supporting the weight of the fan (approximately 16.34 lbs) plus the weight of the blades (sold separately).
- This fan motor is rated for damp locations. Do not expose to direct water spray or submersion.
- Do not operate the fan motor without blades properly installed. Blades are sold separately.

Setup and Installation
Before You Begin: Ensure power is disconnected at the circuit breaker. This motor requires a 220 Volt power supply. If your electrical system is 110/120 Volt, a step-up transformer is required (sold separately).
- Mounting Bracket Installation: Secure the mounting bracket to a ceiling joist or a fan-rated outlet box. Use hardware suitable for your ceiling type. Ensure the bracket is firmly attached and can support the fan's weight.
- Wiring Connections: Connect the fan motor's electrical wires to the household supply wires according to the wiring diagram provided in the full installation guide (refer to Fanimation's official website for detailed diagrams). Ensure all connections are secure with wire nuts and properly insulated. Remember to connect the ground wire.
- Motor Assembly: Carefully lift the fan motor and hang it onto the mounting bracket. Ensure it is securely seated.
- Blade Installation (Blades Sold Separately): Attach the fan blades (Fanimation Spitfire 60" blades recommended) to the motor housing using the provided blade screws. Ensure all screws are tightened securely. Do not overtighten.
- Canopy Installation: Slide the canopy up to the ceiling and secure it to the mounting bracket, covering all wiring connections.
- Restore Power: Once installation is complete and all connections are checked, restore power at the circuit breaker.
Note: For detailed wiring diagrams and specific mounting instructions, please consult the comprehensive installation guide available on the Fanimation website or included with the full fan kit.
Operating Instructions
The Fanimation Spitfire MA6721BN-220 Ceiling Fan Motor is controlled via a pull chain mechanism. It features three forward and three reverse speeds.
- Turning On/Off: Pull the chain once to turn the fan on. Pull it again to cycle through speeds and eventually turn it off.
- Adjusting Fan Speed: Each pull of the chain will cycle through the available speeds (Low, Medium, High) and then off.
- Changing Direction (Forward/Reverse): A separate switch, typically located on the motor housing, controls the fan's direction. This switch allows you to change the airflow direction for seasonal comfort.
- Summer Mode (Downward Airflow): Set the switch to the position that causes the blades to rotate counter-clockwise, pushing air downwards to create a cooling effect.
- Winter Mode (Upward Airflow): Set the switch to the position that causes the blades to rotate clockwise, drawing air upwards to circulate warm air.
- Fan Sync (Optional): This fan motor is equipped with Fan Sync technology. Refer to the Fan Sync manual for instructions on connecting and controlling your fan via a smart device or wall control (accessories sold separately).
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your ceiling fan motor.
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the fan motor housing and blades (if installed) with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the finish.
- Tightening Screws: Check all screws on the motor housing and blade attachments (if applicable) annually. Tighten any loose screws to prevent wobbling and noise.
- Lubrication: The fan motor is permanently lubricated and does not require additional oiling.
- Damp Location Care: As this fan is rated for damp locations, ensure it is kept clean and free of excessive moisture buildup. Wipe down any condensation to prevent corrosion.
Important: Always turn off the power to the fan at the circuit breaker before cleaning or performing any maintenance.
Troubleshooting
Before contacting customer support, review the following common issues and solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Fan does not start. | No power to the fan. Loose wire connections. Incorrect voltage. | Check circuit breaker/fuse. Ensure all wire connections are secure (power off first). Verify 220V supply or transformer is correctly installed. |
| Fan wobbles. | Loose blade screws. Mounting bracket not secure. Unbalanced blades (if installed). | Tighten all blade screws. Ensure mounting bracket is firmly attached to the ceiling. Use a blade balancing kit (if applicable, for blades sold separately). |
| Noisy operation. | Loose screws. Motor hum. Blades hitting an obstruction. | Check and tighten all screws. Some motor hum is normal; ensure proper voltage. Check for any obstructions in the fan's path. |
| Pull chain not working. | Chain is stuck or broken. Internal switch malfunction. | Gently pull the chain to free it. Do not force. If broken, contact customer support. |
If you experience issues not listed here or if the suggested solutions do not resolve the problem, please contact Fanimation customer support.
