1. Introduction

2. Safety Information

5. Installation (Setup)

IMPORTANT: Turn OFF power at the circuit breaker or fuse box before wiring. Failure to do so may result in serious injury or death.

  1. Prepare the Wiring: Carefully remove the existing device from the wall box. Identify the LINE (incoming power) and LOAD (downstream protection) wires. If you are unsure, consult a qualified electrician.
  2. Connect the Wires:
    • Connect the LINE hot wire to the brass LINE terminal.
    • Connect the LINE neutral wire to the silver LINE terminal.
    • If protecting downstream receptacles, connect the LOAD hot wire to the brass LOAD terminal.
    • If protecting downstream receptacles, connect the LOAD neutral wire to the silver LOAD terminal.
    • Connect the ground wire to the green ground screw.
    • Ensure all connections are tight and secure.
  3. Mount the Device: Carefully fold the wires into the wall box. Mount the GFCI receptacle and switch into the wall box using the provided screws.
  4. Install Wallplate: Attach the wallplate (not included) over the device.
  5. Restore Power: Turn ON power at the circuit breaker or fuse box.
  6. Test the GFCI: Perform the initial test as described in the "Operation" section to ensure proper functioning.

6. Operation

The Leviton GFSW1-W combines a standard light switch with a GFCI-protected receptacle.

  • Switch Function: The top rocker switch operates connected lighting or other loads. Press the top to turn ON, press the bottom to turn OFF.
  • GFCI Receptacle: The lower portion provides a 15 Amp, 125 Volt tamper-resistant outlet with ground fault protection.
  • Testing the GFCI:
    1. Plug a lamp or other device into the GFCI receptacle and turn it ON.
    2. Press the "TEST" button. The GFCI should trip, and the lamp/device should turn OFF. The LED indicator may change color or turn off.
    3. Press the "RESET" button. The GFCI should reset, and the lamp/device should turn ON. The LED indicator should return to its normal operating state (e.g., green).
    4. If the GFCI does not trip or reset as described, it may be improperly wired or defective. Do not use and consult a qualified electrician.
  • Resetting the GFCI: If the GFCI trips (power is interrupted), press the "RESET" button firmly. If it does not reset, check for a ground fault or consult the troubleshooting section.

7. Maintenance

Regular testing of your GFCI device is crucial to ensure continued protection against ground faults. Leviton recommends testing your GFCI monthly.

  • Follow the "Testing the GFCI" procedure outlined in the Operation section at least once a month.
  • If the GFCI fails to trip or reset during testing, it must be replaced immediately.

8. Troubleshooting
