6. Operation
The Leviton GFSW1-W combines a standard light switch with a GFCI-protected receptacle.
- Switch Function: The top rocker switch operates connected lighting or other loads. Press the top to turn ON, press the bottom to turn OFF.
- GFCI Receptacle: The lower portion provides a 15 Amp, 125 Volt tamper-resistant outlet with ground fault protection.
- Testing the GFCI:
- Plug a lamp or other device into the GFCI receptacle and turn it ON.
- Press the "TEST" button. The GFCI should trip, and the lamp/device should turn OFF. The LED indicator may change color or turn off.
- Press the "RESET" button. The GFCI should reset, and the lamp/device should turn ON. The LED indicator should return to its normal operating state (e.g., green).
- If the GFCI does not trip or reset as described, it may be improperly wired or defective. Do not use and consult a qualified electrician.
- Resetting the GFCI: If the GFCI trips (power is interrupted), press the "RESET" button firmly. If it does not reset, check for a ground fault or consult the troubleshooting section.
7. Maintenance
Regular testing of your GFCI device is crucial to ensure continued protection against ground faults. Leviton recommends testing your GFCI monthly.
- Follow the "Testing the GFCI" procedure outlined in the Operation section at least once a month.
