Product Overview
The Fiskars 7-16 ft. Extendable Chain-Drive Pole Saw & Pruner is designed for efficient tree trimming, allowing users to reach high branches or make low cuts without excessive bending. It features Chain-Drive technology for enhanced cutting force and a dual cutting system with a sharp pruner and a WoodZig saw blade.
This tool is ideal for cutting branches up to 1.25 inches in diameter with the pruner, and thicker branches with the saw. The lightweight, oval-shaped pole extends from 7 to 16 feet and includes a double-locking system for secure extension.
Key Features
- Extendable Pole: Telescopic design extends from 7 to 16 feet for versatile reach.
- 2-in-1 Functionality: Combines a pruner for branches up to 1.25 inches and a saw for thicker limbs.
- Chain-Drive Technology: Multiplies cutting force for easier pruning.
- WoodZig Saw Blade: 15-inch saw blade with aggressive teeth for faster cutting and reduced binding.
- Durable Construction: Fully hardened, precision-ground steel pruning blade with low-friction coating resists gumming and corrosion.
- Ergonomic Design: Oval-shaped fiberglass poles provide a comfortable grip and reduce flex for better control.
- Secure Locking System: Double-locking mechanism ensures the pole remains extended during use.
Setup and Assembly
The Fiskars Extendable Pole Saw & Pruner comes with the pole and saw blade as separate components. Follow these steps for assembly:
- Attach Saw Blade:
Align the threaded end of the saw blade with the corresponding receiver on the pole. Screw the blade onto the pole until it is securely fastened. Insert the provided screw and nut through the designated holes to further secure the blade, ensuring it is tight and stable.

- Extend the Pole:
Locate the orange locking buttons on the pole sections. Depress the button and pull the pole section outwards to extend it. Release the button to lock the section in place. Ensure the pole is securely locked at your desired length before use. Do not extend the pole past the red mark indicated on the inner shaft.

Operating Instructions
Always wear appropriate safety gear, including eye protection and gloves, when operating the pole saw and pruner.
Using the Pruner:
- Extend the pole to the desired length, ensuring all sections are securely locked.
- Position the pruner head around the branch you wish to cut. The pruner is designed for branches up to 1.25 inches in diameter.
- Pull the rope handle located at the base of the pole to activate the chain-drive mechanism and cut the branch.

This graphic clearly shows the maximum diameter of branches that can be effectively cut with the pruner mechanism.
Using the Pole Saw:
- Extend the pole to the desired length, ensuring all sections are securely locked.
- Position the 15-inch WoodZig saw blade on the branch. The hooked end of the blade can help secure it on the branch.
- Use a steady back-and-forth motion to saw through the branch. For larger branches, make an undercut first to prevent bark stripping.

This image demonstrates how the hooked end of the WoodZig saw blade can be used to secure the saw on a branch, providing stability during the cutting process.

This image shows the pole saw in action, reaching a high branch, illustrating the extended reach capability of the tool.

Maintenance
- Cleaning: After each use, clean the blades and pole to remove sap, debris, and dirt. A damp cloth is usually sufficient.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a light oil to the moving parts of the pruner head and the saw blade to ensure smooth operation and prevent rust.
- Sharpening: The steel pruning blade and WoodZig saw blade are designed to stay sharp. If performance decreases, consider professional sharpening or replacement.
- Storage: Store the tool in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture, to prolong its lifespan. Ensure the blade is covered with its protective sheath when not in use.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pruner not cutting cleanly | Dull blade, sap buildup, or branch too thick. | Clean and sharpen blade. Lubricate moving parts. Ensure branch diameter is within 1.25-inch capacity. |
| Saw blade binding | Sap buildup, improper sawing technique, or wood type. | Clean blade. Use a steady, even stroke. Ensure blade is sharp. |
| Pole not locking securely | Debris in locking mechanism or worn parts. | Inspect and clean locking buttons. Ensure pole is not extended past the red mark. |
