7. Maintenance

7.1. Cleaning the Scanner

Regular cleaning helps maintain optimal scan quality.

  • Exterior: Wipe the scanner's exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Scanner Glass: Gently clean the scanner glass with a soft, lint-free cloth moistened with a small amount of glass cleaner. Do not spray cleaner directly onto the glass. Ensure the glass is dry before closing the lid or scanning.
  • Dust Removal: Use a can of compressed air to remove dust from hard-to-reach areas, holding the can upright to prevent propellant discharge.

Caution: Always power off and unplug the scanner before cleaning.

8. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter.

8.1. Scanner Not Connecting or Not Recognized

  • Check Cables: Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the scanner and the computer. Try a different USB port on your computer.
  • Power Cycle: Turn off the scanner and your computer, then restart both.
  • Reinstall Drivers: If the issue persists, uninstall and then reinstall the scanner drivers and software from the Epson support website.
  • Test USB Cable: If possible, try a different USB cable to rule out a faulty cable.

8.2. Poor Scan Quality

  • Clean Scanner Glass: Dust or smudges on the scanner glass can cause lines or blurry images. Refer to Section 7.1 for cleaning instructions.
  • Adjust Settings: Ensure the correct resolution, document type, and color settings are selected in your scanning software. Higher resolutions generally yield better quality but result in larger file sizes.
  • Original Document Quality: The quality of the original document directly impacts the scan output.

8.3. Scanner Makes Unusual Noises

  • Check for Obstructions: Ensure no foreign objects are inside the scanner.
  • Normal Operation: Some operational noises, such as the fan or scanning mechanism, are normal. Refer to the specifications for expected noise levels.
