2. Safety Information
- The Brita Elite filter is intended for use with potable tap water only. Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system.

4. Setup and First Use
- Prepare the Filter: Wash your hands before unwrapping the filter. Flush the filter under cold tap water for 15 seconds.
- Insert Filter: Insert the filter into the reservoir of your Brita pitcher or dispenser. Align the notch on the filter with the groove in the reservoir and press firmly to ensure a tight seal.
- Initial Flushing: Fill the reservoir with cold tap water. Discard the first three pitchers (or dispenser fills) of filtered water. This initial flushing helps remove any carbon dust and prepares the filter for optimal performance. This water can be used for plants.
- Enjoy Filtered Water: After the initial flushing, your Brita Elite filter is ready for use.

5. Filter Replacement
The Brita Elite filter should be replaced approximately every 6 months or after filtering 120 gallons of water, whichever comes first. Regular replacement ensures optimal filtration performance.
- Remove Old Filter: Gently pull the old filter out of the reservoir.
- Prepare New Filter: Follow step 1 from the 'Setup and First Use' section for the new filter.
- Install New Filter: Follow step 2 from the 'Setup and First Use' section for the new filter.
- Initial Flushing (New Filter): Follow step 3 from the 'Setup and First Use' section for the new filter.
- Reset Filter Indicator: If your Brita pitcher or dispenser has an electronic filter life indicator, press and hold the reset button until the indicator light turns green or resets according to your model's instructions.

9. Troubleshooting
- Slow Filtration: If water filters slowly, ensure the filter is properly seated in the reservoir. If the filter is old, it may be clogged and require replacement.
- Black Flecks in Water: A small amount of carbon dust may appear in the first few pitchers of filtered water. This is normal and harmless. Ensure you have completed the initial flushing steps. If flecks persist, re-flush the filter.
- Unusual Taste: If filtered water has an unusual taste, ensure the filter is correctly installed and has been flushed. Replace the filter if the taste persists, as it may have reached the end of its life.
