2. Safety Information

To ensure safe operation and prevent damage, please observe the following precautions:

• Power Supply: Connect the unit only to an AC outlet of the specified voltage. Do not overload electrical outlets.
• Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation. Do not block ventilation openings. Avoid placing the unit in an enclosed space or on soft surfaces that may obstruct airflow.
• Moisture and Liquids: Do not expose the unit to rain, moisture, or dripping/splashing liquids. Do not place objects filled with liquids, such as vases, on the unit.

4. Setup

4.1 Speaker Connection

1. Ensure the system is powered off and unplugged from the wall outlet.
2. Connect the speaker cables from the USC-M2 speakers to the speaker terminals on the rear of the USR-M2 center unit.
3. Match the polarity: connect the red (+) terminal on the speaker to the red (+) terminal on the center unit, and the black (-) terminal on the speaker to the black (-) terminal on the center unit.
4. Ensure all connections are secure to prevent short circuits.

4.2 Antenna Connection

1. Connect the supplied AM loop antenna to the AM antenna terminals on the rear panel. Position the antenna for best reception.
2. Connect the supplied FM indoor antenna to the FM antenna terminal. Extend the wire for optimal FM reception.

4.3 External Device Connection (AUX/PC)

To connect an external audio source (e.g., a computer or portable music player):

• Use an appropriate audio cable (not supplied) to connect the audio output of your external device to the AUX/PC input terminal on the USR-M2 unit.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Basic Operation

• Power On/Off: Press the POWER button on the front panel or remote control to turn the unit on or off.
• Source Selection: Use the FUNCTION or SOURCE buttons to select between CD, MD, TAPE (Cassette), TUNER (FM/AM), or AUX/PC inputs.
• Volume Control: Adjust the volume using the VOLUME knob on the front panel or the +/- buttons on the remote control.

5.2 CD Player Operation

1. Press the CD button to select the CD function.
2. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to open the CD tray.
3. Place a CD with the label side up on the tray.
4. Press OPEN/CLOSE again to close the tray. Playback will usually start automatically.
5. Use PLAY, PAUSE, STOP, SKIP (forward/backward) buttons for control.

5.3 MD Player/Recorder Operation

1. Press the MD button to select the MD function.
2. Insert an MD into the MD slot.
3. Playback: Press PLAY to start playback. Use PAUSE, STOP, SKIP buttons as needed.
4. Recording:
   • Select the desired input source (CD, Tuner, AUX/PC).
   • Insert a blank or recordable MD.
   • Press the REC button. The system will enter record-pause mode.
   • Start playback on the source device, then press PLAY on the MD section to begin recording.
   • Press STOP to end recording.

5.4 Cassette Deck Operation

1. Press the TAPE button to select the Cassette function.
2. Press the OPEN/EJECT button to open the cassette door.
3. Insert a cassette tape.
4. Playback: Press PLAY to start playback. Use F.FWD (Fast Forward), REW (Rewind), PAUSE, STOP buttons for control.
5. Recording:
   • Select the desired input source (CD, Tuner, AUX/PC).
   • Insert a blank cassette tape.
   • Press the REC button (usually simultaneously with PLAY) to begin recording.
   • Press STOP to end recording.
6. Dolby B Noise Reduction: Activate or deactivate Dolby B noise reduction as desired for playback or recording.

5.5 Tuner Operation (FM/AM)

1. Press the TUNER button to select the Tuner function.
2. Press the BAND button to switch between FM and AM bands.
3. Use the TUNING +/- buttons to manually tune to a station.
4. Use the PRESET buttons to recall stored stations, or the AUTO TUNE/SCAN function to automatically find and store stations.

6. Maintenance

• Cleaning: Wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, lightly dampen the cloth with water or a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Do not use strong solvents.
• CD/MD Lens: Do not attempt to clean the CD or MD optical lens yourself. Use a commercially available lens cleaner disc if necessary.
• Cassette Heads: Periodically clean the cassette deck's heads, capstans, and pinch rollers with a cotton swab lightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol.
• Storage: When not in use for extended periods, unplug the power cord and store the unit in a cool, dry place.
