Setup and Installation

Installing a new inner tube requires careful attention to prevent punctures and ensure proper seating within the tire. Always work in a clean environment.

Tools Required:

  • Tire levers (2-3 recommended)
  • Bicycle pump with Presta valve compatibility
  • New EVO inner tube (700x28-32c 48mm Presta RVC)

Installation Steps:

  1. Remove the Wheel: Carefully remove the wheel from your bicycle.
  2. Deflate and Remove Old Tube: If an old tube is present, fully deflate it. Use tire levers to carefully pry one bead of the tire off the rim. Once one bead is off, you can usually pull the old tube out.
  3. Inspect Tire and Rim: Thoroughly inspect the inside of the tire for any sharp objects (glass, thorns, metal shards) that may have caused the previous puncture. Check the rim strip for proper coverage and ensure there are no sharp edges or exposed spoke nipples.
  4. Lightly Inflate New Tube: Inflate the new EVO inner tube with a small amount of air, just enough for it to hold its shape. This prevents it from getting pinched during installation.
  5. Insert Valve: Insert the Presta valve of the new tube through the valve hole in the rim. Ensure the valve is straight and fully seated.
  6. Seat the Tube and Tire: Starting from the valve, carefully tuck the inner tube inside the tire, working your way around the rim. Once the tube is fully inside, begin seating the second tire bead onto the rim. Use your thumbs to push the bead over the rim edge. For the last stubborn section, use tire levers carefully to avoid pinching the tube.
  7. Check for Pinches: Before fully inflating, push the tire bead away from the rim on both sides, all the way around, to ensure no part of the inner tube is pinched between the tire bead and the rim.
  8. Inflate to Recommended Pressure: Slowly inflate the tire to the recommended pressure indicated on the sidewall of your tire. Periodically check that the tire bead is evenly seated on the rim as you inflate. Do not exceed the maximum pressure.
  9. Replace Wheel: Reinstall the wheel onto your bicycle, ensuring it is properly secured.

Operating and Usage

The EVO Bike Tube is designed for reliable performance in various cycling conditions. Proper inflation is key to both comfort and puncture resistance.

Inflation Pressure:

  • Always refer to the recommended pressure range printed on the sidewall of your bicycle tire.
  • Use a reliable pressure gauge to ensure accurate inflation.
  • Higher pressures generally reduce rolling resistance but can lead to a harsher ride and less grip. Lower pressures offer more comfort and grip but increase the risk of pinch flats.

Presta Valve Operation:

  1. To Inflate: Unscrew the small knurled nut at the top of the Presta valve stem. Press down briefly on the valve stem to release a small amount of air, ensuring it's open. Attach your Presta-compatible pump head and inflate to the desired pressure.
  2. To Deflate: Unscrew the knurled nut and press down on the valve stem to release air.
  3. To Secure: After inflation or deflation, screw the knurled nut down firmly to seal the valve and prevent accidental air loss.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps extend the life of your inner tubes and prevents unexpected flats.

  • Check Tire Pressure Regularly: Bicycle tires lose air over time. Check your tire pressure before every ride or at least once a week.
  • Inspect Tires: Periodically inspect your tires for cuts, cracks, embedded debris, or excessive wear. Replace worn tires promptly.
  • Valve Core Maintenance: The EVO tubes feature a removable Presta valve core. If you experience a slow leak from the valve, you can tighten the valve core with a Presta valve core tool (not included) or replace it if damaged.
  • Storage: Store spare tubes in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

Troubleshooting

Here are solutions to common issues you might encounter with your bike tubes.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Frequent FlatsEmbedded debris in tire, worn tire, sharp rim strip, pinch flat from underinflation or improper installation.Thoroughly inspect tire and rim. Replace worn tires. Ensure proper inflation and installation.
Slow Leak from ValveLoose or damaged Presta valve core.Tighten the valve core with a tool. If still leaking, replace the valve core.
Tire Blows Off Rim During InflationTire bead not properly seated, overinflation.Deflate, re-seat tire bead evenly around the rim, and inflate slowly to recommended pressure.
