2. Safety Information

  • Charging: Use only Makita-approved chargers for this battery. Using an unapproved charger may result in fire, serious injury, or damage.
  • Temperature: Do not charge or use the battery in temperatures below 10°C (50°F) or above 40°C (104°F). Store the battery in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.
  • Impact: Do not drop, hit, or subject the battery to strong impacts. This can damage the internal components and lead to malfunction or fire.
  • Water Exposure: Do not expose the battery to water or rain. Keep it dry.
  • Short Circuit: Do not short-circuit the battery terminals. Avoid placing the battery near metal objects that could bridge the terminals.
  • Disassembly: Never attempt to disassemble, repair, or modify the battery pack.

3. Setup and Initial Charge

Before first use, the battery should be fully charged. Ensure you are using a compatible Makita charger.

  1. Connect Charger: Plug the Makita battery charger into a standard electrical outlet.
  2. Insert Battery: Slide the BL1830B battery pack into the charger until it clicks securely into place.

4. Operating the Battery

4.1 Attaching to a Tool

  1. Align the battery with the battery port on your Makita 18V LXT tool.
  2. Slide the battery into the tool until it clicks into place. Ensure it is firmly seated.

To check the charge level, press the button located on the battery pack. The LED indicators will illuminate to show the approximate remaining capacity:

  • 4 Lights: 75% - 100% charge
  • 3 Lights: 50% - 75% charge
  • 2 Lights: 25% - 50% charge
  • 1 Light: 0% - 25% charge (recharge soon)
  • Flashing 1 Light: Battery is almost depleted or has a fault.

5. Maintenance and Storage

Proper maintenance and storage will extend the life of your Makita battery.

  • Cleaning: Keep the battery terminals clean and free of dust and debris. Use a dry cloth to wipe the battery.
  • Storage: For long-term storage, store the battery in a cool, dry place, ideally at a charge level of 50-75%. Avoid storing fully charged or fully discharged batteries for extended periods.
  • Temperature: Do not store the battery in areas where temperatures may exceed 50°C (122°F), such as in direct sunlight or inside a vehicle on a hot day.
  • Periodic Charging: If storing for an extended period, recharge the battery every 6 months to maintain its health.
