1. Setup
Before first use, ensure all packaging materials are removed. Wash the carafe, filter basket, and lid in warm, soapy water, then rinse thoroughly. The filter basket and carafe are dishwasher safe.
1.1 Components Overview

The coffee maker includes the main unit, glass carafe, and brew funnel/filter basket.
1.2 Filter Placement
Place a BUNN coffee filter into the brew funnel. BUNN recommends using their taller basket-style filters for optimal brewing and to prevent overflow.

1.3 Adding Coffee Grounds
Measure fresh coffee grounds into the filter. The recommended ratio for a "Golden Cup" is 1 part coffee to 18 parts water. For 10 cups (50 oz), use approximately 10-11 tablespoons (81.3 grams) of coffee grounds. Gently shake the filter to level the grounds.
1.4 Adding Water
Fill the glass carafe with the desired amount of fresh, cold water (minimum 4 cups/20 oz, maximum 10 cups/50 oz). Open the top lid of the coffee maker and pour the water into the top tank. The internal steps indicate the water level.

3.2 Descaling
Over time, mineral deposits can build up inside the coffee maker, affecting performance. Periodically descaling the unit according to the manufacturer's recommendations, typically using a descaling solution or a vinegar solution. Refer to the full product manual for detailed descaling instructions.
4. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your BUNN HB Heat N Brew coffee maker, consider the following general troubleshooting tips:
- Coffee not brewing: Ensure the unit is plugged in, the water reservoir is filled, and the brew button has been pressed. Check that the filter basket is correctly inserted.
- Water not heating: Allow sufficient time for the water to heat (up to 6 minutes). If using cold water, this process will take longer.
- Overflowing filter basket: Ensure you are using genuine BUNN basket-style filters, which are taller and designed for this brewer. Also, verify the correct coffee-to-water ratio to avoid overfilling.
- Error codes: If the digital display shows an error code, consult the full product manual for specific code meanings and solutions.
- Coffee not hot enough: Ensure the warming plate is active (red light around the brew button). If it has turned off after 2 hours, reactivate it by holding the brew button for 4-5 seconds.
