2. Safety Instructions
To prevent fire, electric shock, and damage to the unit, please observe the following safety precautions:
- Power Source: Connect the unit only to an AC power outlet of the specified voltage (120 Volts). Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into both the unit and the wall outlet.
- Ventilation: Do not block any ventilation openings. Install the unit in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, ensuring adequate airflow around the unit. Avoid placing it in enclosed spaces.
- Water and Moisture: Do not expose the unit to rain or moisture. Do not place objects filled with liquids, such as vases, on the unit.
- Heat: Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
- Cleaning: Unplug the unit from the wall outlet before cleaning. Use only a dry cloth.
- Servicing: Do not attempt to service this product yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Opening the unit may expose you to dangerous voltages or other hazards.
- Placement: Place the unit on a stable, level surface. Avoid locations subject to vibration, direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, or high humidity.
3. Unpacking and Package Contents
Carefully unpack your SPL Performer S800 amplifier and check for any signs of damage during transit. If you find any damage, contact your dealer immediately.
The package should contain:
- SPL Performer S800 Stereo Power Amplifier
- AC Power Cord
- This User Manual
4. Setup
Follow these steps to set up your amplifier:
4.1. Placement
Place the amplifier on a sturdy, level surface. Ensure there is sufficient space around the unit for proper ventilation, especially at the top and rear. Avoid stacking other heat-generating components directly on top of the S800.
4.2. Connecting Audio Sources (Inputs)
The Performer S800 features balanced XLR inputs for optimal signal integrity. Connect your preamplifier or audio source's balanced outputs to the corresponding XLR inputs on the rear panel of the S800. Ensure left and right channels are correctly matched.
Note: While the amplifier is designed for balanced inputs, high-quality RCA to XLR adapter cables can be used for unbalanced sources, though balanced connections are recommended for best performance.
4.3. Connecting Speakers (Outputs)
Connect your loudspeakers to the speaker terminals on the rear panel. The S800 typically uses robust binding posts compatible with banana plugs, spade connectors, or bare wire. Observe correct polarity: connect the positive (+) terminal of the amplifier to the positive (+) terminal of the speaker, and the negative (-) terminal of the amplifier to the negative (-) terminal of the speaker. Incorrect polarity will result in poor sound quality and imaging.
Caution: Ensure the amplifier is turned off and unplugged before making any speaker connections to prevent damage to the amplifier or speakers.
4.4. Power Connection
Once all audio and speaker connections are made, connect the supplied AC power cord to the power inlet on the rear panel of the S800, and then plug the other end into a suitable 120V AC wall outlet. It is recommended to use a dedicated power circuit or a high-quality power conditioner for optimal performance.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Powering On/Off
- Power On: Ensure all connections are secure. Turn on your preamplifier or audio source first. Then, press the power button on the front panel of the S800. The "PWR" indicator light will illuminate. The amplifier may undergo a brief protection sequence, indicated by the "PROTECT" light, before becoming operational.
- Power Off: Turn off the S800 first, then turn off your preamplifier or audio source. This prevents any potential "thump" noises through your speakers.
5.2. Indicator Lights
- PROTECT: This indicator illuminates when the amplifier's protection circuitry is active. This can occur during power-on, in case of a short circuit at the speaker terminals, or if the amplifier detects an internal fault. If it remains lit, refer to the Troubleshooting section.
- PWR (Power): This indicator illuminates when the amplifier is powered on and operational.
- TEMP (Temperature): This indicator illuminates if the amplifier's internal temperature exceeds safe operating limits. This typically indicates insufficient ventilation or prolonged operation at very high output levels. If this light comes on, reduce the volume and ensure proper ventilation. The amplifier may automatically shut down to prevent damage.
5.3. Basic Operation
The SPL Performer S800 is a pure power amplifier and does not have volume controls. Volume adjustment should be managed by your preamplifier or audio source. Start with a low volume setting on your preamplifier and gradually increase it to a comfortable listening level.
6. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your amplifier.
- Cleaning: Disconnect the power cord before cleaning. Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to wipe the exterior surfaces. Do not use liquid cleaners, aerosols, or abrasive materials, as these can damage the finish.
- Ventilation: Regularly check that the ventilation openings are clear of dust and debris. Dust accumulation can impede airflow and lead to overheating.
- Connections: Periodically check all audio and power connections to ensure they are secure. Loose connections can degrade sound quality or cause intermittent issues.
7. Troubleshooting
If you experience issues with your SPL Performer S800, consult the following table before contacting service personnel.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
