Product Overview
The Kwikset Kevo Convert Smart Lock Conversion Kit transforms your existing deadbolt into a smart lock. This kit allows you to lock and unlock your door using a compatible smart device within Bluetooth range. It also supports Alexa voice commands when paired with a Kevo Plus hub (sold separately). The Venetian Bronze finish provides a rich and warm aesthetic.
This conversion kit is compatible with standard deadbolts mounted separately from the handle below it. It works with Kwikset, Weiser, Baldwin Prestige, Baldwin Reserve, Baldwin Estate, and Schlage standard deadbolts.
Important Safety Information
WARNING: Do not use an electric drill or an electric screwdriver to tighten the screws during installation. Use only a Phillips screwdriver to prevent damage to the lock components.

Step 1: Ensure Existing Deadbolt is Compatible
Verify that your existing deadbolt is a standard type, mounted separately from the handle below it. Kevo Convert is compatible with Kwikset, Weiser, Baldwin Prestige, Baldwin Reserve, Baldwin Estate, and Schlage standard deadbolts. Deadbolts integrated with the handle or other non-standard types are not compatible.

Step 2: Disassemble the Existing Deadbolt
Ensure the door is open and the latch bolt is extended. While keeping the exterior part of the deadbolt in place, remove all existing deadbolt hardware from the interior side of the door.
Step 3: Determine the Parts Needed
Locate the torque blade of your existing deadbolt. Its shape will determine which conversion hardware kit (black, gold, or silver) you need to use:
- D-shaped torque blade: Use black components for Kwikset/Weiser deadbolts, or gold mounting plate, black adapter with D-shaped hole, and thicker gold screws for Baldwin Prestige/Reserve deadbolts.
- Vertical rectangular torque blade: Use gold mounting plate, gold adapter with vertical slot, and thinner gold screws for Baldwin Estate deadbolts.
- Slanted rectangular torque blade: Use silver mounting plate, silver screws, and silver adapter for Schlage deadbolts.
- Horizontal rectangular torque blade: Use silver mounting plate, silver screws, and gold adapter for Schlage deadbolts.
Step 4: Install the Mounting Plate
Insert the torque blade through the center hole of the appropriate mounting plate and position the plate flush against the door. Select the correct mounting screws (thicker or thinner) by testing them first. Secure the mounting plate to the door, ensuring it is parallel with the door edge. Test the latch operation with your existing key; adjust screws if necessary. Remove the key and ensure the latch bolt is extended.

Step 5: Install the Interior Assembly
Ensure the turn piece on the interior cover is in the vertical position. Remove the cover from the interior assembly. Verify the shaft is oriented vertically; rotate if needed. Remove and set aside the battery pack. Align the tabs and firmly press the correct adapter onto the interior assembly. For Schlage deadbolts, check if the latch is to the left or right of the mounting plate and adjust switch #2 on the interior assembly accordingly. Align the torque blade with the adapter and push the interior assembly flush against the door. Insert the small screws into the lower holes of the interior assembly and tighten to secure it to the mounting plate.
Step 6: Handing the Deadbolt
This step is crucial for proper operation. With the batteries properly installed in the battery pack, press and hold the program button while inserting the battery pack. Once installed, you will hear a long beep. Press the program button again. The lock will perform a door handing process, retracting and extending the deadbolt latch to determine proper handing. The status LED will blink green when the process is complete. If you have a Baldwin Estate deadbolt and the status LED blinks red after handing, press the program button again to restart the handing process. For other deadbolts, you can restart the handing process by removing the battery pack and repeating this step.
Step 7: Pair Your Smartphone with Kevo Convert
Download the Kevo app from your device's app store. Follow the in-app instructions to create an account, enroll your first smartphone, and send eKeys to family and friends. Ensure your phone is paired prior to cover installation to easily access back panel buttons.
Step 8: Install the Interior Cover
The interior cover will be installed over the interior assembly with three screws. The window on the interior cover is locked by default to prevent tampering with your lock's settings. If desired, you may remove the security screw from the window so that it can slide up for quick access to the buttons on the interior while the cover is installed.

Operating Instructions
Locking and Unlocking
- Use the Kevo app on your compatible iOS or Android smartphone to lock or unlock your door within Bluetooth range.
- For remote access, a Kevo Plus hub (sold separately) is required. This allows you to lock or unlock your door from anywhere.
- Kevo Convert supports Alexa voice commands (requires Kevo Plus hub). A PIN may be required for certain voice commands.
eKeys
Send digital eKeys to family and friends through the Kevo app. You can track home access and manage eKeys from your smartphone.
Auto-Lock Feature
Kevo Convert features an optional auto-lock function that will lock your door 30 seconds after unlocking for added security and peace of mind. This feature can be configured via the Kevo app.
Maintenance
Battery Replacement
The Kevo Convert requires 4 AAA batteries (included). When batteries are low, the lock will provide an indicator. To replace batteries, remove the interior cover, replace the batteries in the battery pack, and reattach the cover. Ensure proper battery orientation.
Troubleshooting
- Connection Issues: If experiencing constant Bluetooth connection issues, ensure your smartphone is within range and the Kevo app is running. Some Android devices may have compatibility issues.
- Latch Not Operating Smoothly: If the deadbolt latch does not operate smoothly after installation, adjust the mounting screws. Ensure the deadbolt latch mechanism is not obstructed and moves freely.
- Incorrect Lock/Unlock Indication: If the app shows the lock status reversed, try re-calibrating the lock by restarting the handing process (Step 6).
- Battery Drain: Constant Bluetooth usage by the Kevo app can drain phone battery. Ensure the app is optimized for battery usage on your device.
- Lock Not Powering On: If the lock does not power on after battery replacement, ensure batteries are new and correctly installed. If issues persist, contact customer support.
