Product Overview

The Marathon Wireless Weather Station consists of a central display unit and three remote sensors. The main unit features a large LCD display for easy viewing of time, indoor temperature, indoor humidity, and readings from the remote sensors. The remote sensors are designed to be placed outdoors or in other areas where you wish to monitor temperature and humidity.

Key Features:

  • Large, Multi-Zone Display: Clear and legible display showing time, indoor/outdoor temperature, and humidity.
  • Three Remote Sensors: Monitor temperature and humidity in up to three distinct locations.
  • Atomic Accuracy: Self-setting and self-adjusting time based on NIST's Colorado Atomic Clock (North America only).
  • Versatile Placement: Battery-powered units allow flexible positioning.
  • Multiple Display Modes: 12/24-hour time, Celsius/Fahrenheit, and selectable time zones (PST, CST, MST, EST).

Setup Guide

1. Battery Installation

Ensure you use fresh batteries for optimal performance. The main unit and each remote sensor require batteries.

  1. Main Unit: Open the battery compartment on the back of the main display unit. Insert the required batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-).
  2. Remote Sensors: Open the battery compartment on the back of each remote sensor. Insert the required batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-).

2. Initial Pairing and Atomic Clock Synchronization

The main unit will automatically attempt to connect with the remote sensors and synchronize with the atomic clock signal upon battery installation.

  • Place the main unit and all remote sensors close to each other during initial setup (within 1 meter/3 feet).
  • The main unit will search for signals from the remote sensors. This may take a few minutes. Once connected, the sensor readings will appear on the display.
  • The main unit will also begin searching for the NIST atomic clock signal. A signal strength indicator will appear on the display. For best reception, place the unit near a window, away from electronic interference. This process can take several hours, especially during initial setup.

3. Sensor Placement

For accurate readings, consider the following for remote sensor placement:

  • Place sensors in shaded areas, away from direct sunlight or heat sources, which can skew temperature readings.
  • Ensure sensors are protected from direct rain or snow. While weather-resistant, prolonged exposure to harsh elements can affect longevity.
  • Position sensors within the wireless range of the main unit (typically up to 100 feet/30 meters, line of sight). Walls and obstacles will reduce this range.
  • Avoid placing sensors near large metal objects or strong electromagnetic fields.

Operating Instructions

Display Modes

The main display unit offers various viewing options:

  • Time Display: Shows the current time in 12-hour (AM/PM) or 24-hour format.
  • Temperature Units: Toggle between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F) for all temperature readings.
  • Time Zone Selection: Select your local time zone (PST, CST, MST, EST) to ensure correct atomic time display.
  • Sensor Cycling: The display can cycle through the readings of the three remote sensors, or you can manually select a specific sensor to view. Refer to the buttons on the back of the unit for specific controls (e.g., "CHANNEL" or "MODE" button).

Weather Forecast

The weather station provides a reliable weather forecast based on changes in atmospheric pressure. The forecast is represented by intuitive icons (e.g., sunny, partly cloudy, cloudy, rainy). This forecast is an estimation for the next 12-24 hours and may not always perfectly match official weather reports due to localized microclimates.

Alarm Function

The main unit may include an alarm function. Consult the specific button layout on your device for setting and activating the alarm. Typically, a "SET" or "ALARM" button is used to enter alarm setting mode, and arrow buttons adjust the time.

Maintenance

Battery Replacement

When the display on the main unit or a remote sensor becomes dim or erratic, it's time to replace the batteries. Always replace all batteries in a unit at the same time with new ones of the same type. Dispose of old batteries responsibly according to local regulations.

Cleaning

Wipe the display and unit casings with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the plastic and electronic components. Ensure no moisture enters the battery compartments or other openings.

Environmental Considerations

While remote sensors are weather-resistant, extreme temperatures outside their operating range (-40°C to 60°C / -40°F to 140°F) can affect accuracy and battery life. Bring sensors indoors during prolonged periods of extreme cold or heat if possible.

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
No display on main unit. Dead or incorrectly installed batteries. Check battery polarity. Replace with fresh batteries.
Remote sensor reading not displayed or intermittent. Sensor out of range, interference, or low sensor battery. Move sensor closer to main unit. Reduce obstacles. Replace sensor batteries. Re-pair sensor by removing and reinserting batteries in both units.
Atomic time not synchronizing. Weak signal, interference, or incorrect time zone setting. Place unit near a window, away from electronics. Ensure correct time zone is selected. Allow several hours for synchronization.
Inaccurate temperature/humidity readings. Sensor exposed to direct sunlight, heat source, or moisture. Relocate sensor to a shaded, well-ventilated area. Ensure it's protected from direct precipitation.
