4.1 Wiring Diagram

WattStopper BZ-200 Power Pack wiring diagram showing electrical connections and specifications.

Image Description: This image displays the WattStopper BZ-200 Power Pack, a white rectangular device with a threaded conduit connector. The label on the device provides detailed electrical specifications and a wiring diagram. Key specifications include: 120-277 VAC (1φ), 50/60 Hz input; 20A Ballast/ELV/MLV/Tungsten/LED, 16A E-Ballast/CFL, 1HP @ 120/240VAC, and 20A 120VAC Plug Load output. It also specifies Class 2 Output: 24 VDC, 225 mA and is UL 2043 Plenum Rated. A prominent warning states 'Class 2 wiring only'. The wiring diagram illustrates connections for Neutral (White), Hot (Black, Green), and Ground. The Power Pack connects to a Lighting Load via Red wires and to an external 3-wire 24VDC sensor via Red (+24VDC), Black (Common), and Blue (Control) wires. The diagram also shows a switch between the Power Pack and the Lighting Load. The bottom of the label includes 'Watt Stopper', their website 'www.wattstopper.com', and phone number '800.879.8585'.

4.2 Wiring Steps

Follow these steps for proper wiring:

  1. Power Disconnection: Ensure power is OFF at the circuit breaker before beginning any wiring.
  2. Line Voltage Input:
    • Connect the building's Neutral wire to the White wire of the Power Pack.
    • Connect the building's Hot wire to the Black wire of the Power Pack.
    • Connect the building's Ground wire to the Green wire of the Power Pack.
  3. Load Connection:
    • Connect the Red wire from the Power Pack to the Lighting Load. An optional switch can be wired in series with this connection.
  4. Sensor Connection (Class 2 Wiring Only):
    • Connect the Red wire from the Power Pack to the +24VDC input of a 3-wire 24VDC sensor.
    • Connect the Black wire from the Power Pack to the Common terminal of the sensor.
    • Connect the Blue wire from the Power Pack to the Control input of the sensor.
  5. Secure Connections: Ensure all wire nuts or connectors are tight and properly insulated.
  6. Restore Power: Once all connections are verified, restore power at the circuit breaker.

5. Operation

The BZ-200 Power Pack operates in conjunction with a connected 24VDC occupancy sensor. When the sensor detects occupancy, it sends a signal to the power pack via the control wire (Blue). The power pack then closes its internal relay, supplying power to the connected lighting or plug load. When the sensor no longer detects occupancy for a preset time, it signals the power pack to open the relay, turning off the load.

  • Automatic Control: The system provides automatic on/off control of loads based on occupancy.
  • Manual Override (Optional): If an optional manual switch is installed, it can be used to override the automatic control, typically to turn the lights off manually.

6. Maintenance

The WattStopper BZ-200 Power Pack is designed for maintenance-free operation. However, periodic inspection is recommended to ensure optimal performance.

  • Cleaning: If necessary, gently wipe the exterior of the power pack with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Inspection: Periodically check for any visible damage to the wiring or casing. Ensure all connections remain secure.
  • Power Cycle: If the unit appears to be malfunctioning, try cycling the power at the circuit breaker for a few seconds to reset it.

7. Troubleshooting

If the BZ-200 Power Pack is not functioning as expected, consider the following common issues and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Load does not turn ON.No power to the power pack.
Incorrect wiring.
Faulty sensor.
Load issue.
Check circuit breaker. Verify line voltage wiring (Black, White, Green). Test sensor functionality. Check the load (e.g., light bulb).
Load does not turn OFF.Sensor constantly detecting occupancy.
Sensor wiring issue.
Power pack relay stuck.
Check sensor placement and sensitivity. Verify sensor control wiring (Red, Black, Blue). If problem persists, power cycle the unit.
Intermittent operation.Loose wiring connections.
Interference with sensor.
Inspect all wiring connections for tightness. Check for sources of interference near the sensor.
