3. Operating the Drill
3.1 Chuck Operation
The drill features a 1/2-inch keyless chuck for easy bit changes.
- To open the chuck, rotate the chuck collar counter-clockwise until the jaws are wide enough to insert your drill bit or driver bit.
- Insert the bit fully into the chuck.
- To close the chuck, rotate the chuck collar clockwise until the bit is securely gripped. Hand-tighten firmly.

3.2 Speed Settings (High/Low)
The drill features a 2-speed gearbox for optimal performance across different applications:
- Speed 1 (0-550 RPM): Ideal for high-torque applications, such as driving screws or drilling large holes.
- Speed 2 (0-2,000 RPM): Suitable for high-speed drilling in softer materials or when less torque is required.
To change speeds, use the selector switch located on top of the drill.

3.3 Torque/Clutch Settings
The drill offers 22 levels of resistance (torque settings) to prevent over-driving screws or damaging materials. The higher the number, the greater the torque applied before the clutch disengages.
Rotate the torque collar to select the desired setting. For drilling, set the collar to the drill icon for maximum torque.

3.4 Trigger and LED Light
The drill features a variable-speed trigger, allowing you to control the drilling speed by varying the pressure applied. A built-in LED light illuminates the work area when the trigger is pressed, improving visibility in dimly lit spaces.

4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Kobalt drill.
- Cleaning: Keep the drill's ventilation openings clear and free of debris. Use a clean, dry cloth to wipe down the tool. Do not use cleaning agents or solvents.
- Battery Care: Store batteries in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Do not store batteries in a discharged state for extended periods.
- Bit Storage: Store drill bits and accessories in a dry place to prevent rust.
5. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your drill, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- Drill Not Operating: Ensure the battery is fully charged and properly seated. Check the forward/reverse switch is in the correct position (not in the center locked position).
- Battery Not Charging: Verify the charger is properly plugged into a working outlet. Ensure the battery is correctly inserted into the charger. Check for any damage to the battery or charger.
- Reduced Power/Performance: The battery may be low on charge. The selected torque setting might be too low for the task. Ensure the drill bit is sharp and appropriate for the material.
- LED Light Not Working: While rare, if the LED light does not illuminate when the trigger is pressed, it may indicate an internal electrical issue. Contact customer support.
