1. Product Overview

The Testo 104-IR is a versatile dual-purpose thermometer designed for accurate temperature measurements in various applications, particularly within the food industry. 2. Safety Instructions

  • Always read the user manual thoroughly before operating the device.
  • Do not point the infrared laser directly at eyes or reflective surfaces.
  • Ensure the penetration probe is clean before and after each use, especially when measuring food items.
  • Do not expose the device to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight for prolonged periods.
  • Use only the specified battery type (2 x AAA batteries).
  • Keep the device out of reach of children.
  • Dispose of batteries and the device according to local regulations.

3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the device.
  2. Open the battery compartment cover.
  3. Insert two AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

3.2 Initial Power On

The device automatically powers on when the penetration probe is unfolded. Ensure the display illuminates upon unfolding.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Infrared (IR) Measurement (Non-Contact)

For quick surface temperature readings, use the infrared sensor. This is ideal for checking temperatures of packaged goods or surfaces without direct contact.

  1. Ensure the penetration probe is folded in.
  2. Point the front of the thermometer towards the surface to be measured.
  3. Press the "ON" button to activate the infrared measurement and laser pointer. The laser dots indicate the measurement area.
  4. Read the temperature displayed on the LCD screen.

4.2 Penetration Probe Measurement (Contact)

For accurate core temperature readings of semi-solid or liquid substances, use the foldable penetration probe.

  1. Unfold the penetration probe. The device will automatically power on.
  2. Insert the probe into the substance to be measured, ensuring the tip is fully immersed to the desired depth.
  3. Wait for the reading to stabilize on the display. The device has a fast reaction time (t99 = 10 seconds in moving liquid).

4.3 Hold and Min/Max Functions

  • HOLD: Press the "HOLD" button to freeze the current temperature reading on the display. Press again to release.
  • MIN/MAX: While in measurement mode, press the "MIN/MAX" button to cycle through the minimum and maximum temperatures recorded during the current measurement session.

4.4 Power Off

To turn off the device, fold the penetration probe back into its housing. The device will automatically power down.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

The Testo 104-IR is waterproof (IP65 rated), allowing for easy cleaning under running water or with a damp cloth. Ensure the probe is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after each use, especially when used with food products.

5.2 Battery Replacement

When the battery indicator on the display shows low power, replace the batteries as described in Section 3.1. Always use fresh AAA batteries.

5.3 Storage

Store the thermometer in a clean, dry place at room temperature. Ensure the probe is folded in to protect it from damage.
