Setup and Installation

General Considerations

Wiring Connections

Important: Disconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal before making any power connections.

  1. Power (+12V): Connect a heavy-gauge cable (e.g., 4 AWG or larger for 5000W) from the amplifier's +12V terminal directly to the vehicle's positive battery terminal. Install an in-line fuse holder within 18 inches (45 cm) of the battery. The fuse rating should match the amplifier's requirements (e.g., 200 Amp ANL).
  2. Ground (GND): Connect a heavy-gauge cable (same as power) from the amplifier's GND terminal to a clean, unpainted metal point on the vehicle's chassis. Ensure a good electrical connection by scraping away any paint or rust.
  3. Remote (REM): Connect a smaller gauge wire (e.g., 18 AWG) from the amplifier's REM terminal to the remote turn-on output of your head unit. This wire turns the amplifier on and off with the head unit.
  4. RCA Inputs: Connect RCA cables from the head unit's low-level outputs to the amplifier's "INPUTS" (L and R).
  5. Speaker Output: Connect your subwoofer(s) to the amplifier's "SPEAKER" terminals. Observe correct polarity (+ to + and - to -). Ensure the total impedance of your subwoofer(s) matches the amplifier's stable operating range (1 to 8 Ohm).
  6. Remote Subwoofer Level Control: Plug the remote control cable into the dedicated port on the amplifier.

Mounting the Amplifier

Securely mount the amplifier using appropriate screws. Ensure the mounting surface is strong enough to support the amplifier's weight and that no vehicle wiring or fuel lines are damaged during drilling.

Operating Instructions

Initial Setup and Adjustments

  1. Gain Control (Input Level):

Start with the amplifier's gain control set to minimum (fully counter-clockwise). Turn your head unit volume to about 75% of its maximum. Slowly increase the amplifier's gain control until you hear distortion, then back it off slightly. This matches the amplifier's input sensitivity to your head unit's output.

  2. Low Pass Filter (LPF):

Adjust the LPF frequency to filter out high frequencies from reaching your subwoofer. A common starting point is 80-100 Hz. Experiment to blend the subwoofer output seamlessly with your main speakers.

  3. Subsonic Filter:

Set the subsonic filter to a frequency just below your subwoofer's resonant frequency or port tuning frequency (if ported). This protects the subwoofer from playing frequencies too low for it to reproduce safely, typically around 20-30 Hz.

  4. Bass Boost:

Use the bass boost sparingly. Excessive bass boost can lead to distortion and potential damage to your subwoofer. Start at minimum and increase only if desired, listening carefully for distortion.

  5. Phase Control:

Switch between 0° and 180° to find the setting that provides the most impactful and cohesive bass response with your main speakers. This often involves listening from the driver's seat.

Using the Remote Subwoofer Level Control

Once the amplifier's gain is set, the remote subwoofer level control allows you to adjust the subwoofer's output volume independently from the head unit's main volume. This is useful for quick adjustments based on music genre or personal preference.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No Power (Power LED Off)Blown fuse, poor power/ground connection, no remote turn-on signal.Check in-line fuse, verify +12V, GND, and REM connections.
Protection Mode (Protect LED On)Short circuit in speaker wiring, impedance too low, overheating, DC offset.Check speaker wiring for shorts, verify speaker impedance, ensure adequate ventilation, allow amplifier to cool.
No SoundRCA cables disconnected, gain too low, head unit settings, speaker wires disconnected.Verify RCA connections, adjust gain, check head unit output, ensure speaker wires are connected.
Distorted SoundGain set too high, bass boost excessive, poor ground connection, damaged speaker.Reduce gain, lower bass boost, check ground connection, inspect speaker.
Engine Noise/WhinePoor ground, RCA cables routed near power cables, faulty head unit.Improve ground connection, re-route RCA cables away from power, consider a ground loop isolator.
