4. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps for effective vehicle recovery using your X-BULL Recovery Traction Tracks:

Illustrated instructions for using X-BULL Recovery Traction Tracks in three steps: shoveling, positioning, and driving forward.

Image 4.1: Step-by-step guide for vehicle recovery using traction tracks.

  1. Step 1: Clear Debris. Use a shovel or the traction board itself to remove snow, sand, or mud from under the vehicle chassis and tires. Ensure the vehicle frame or underside is clear and not supporting the vehicle.
  2. Step 2: Position Tracks. Remove as much material as possible in front of all tires to allow the vehicle to move forward. Position the end of the traction board as low as possible and wedge it against the tire tread.
  3. Step 3: Drive Forward. Once positioned, slowly drive forward without spinning the wheels. If the tire tread does not grip the board, stop and reposition. DO NOT SPIN YOUR WHEELS! Spinning will damage the traction boards and not help in vehicle recovery. Repeat this process on either two or four wheels. With AWD and 4WD vehicles, place the traction boards under the front wheels if only using two traction boards.

4.1 Suggested Tire Pressure for Various Terrains:

  • Rocky Terrain: 15 psi
  • Soft Sand / Deep Silt: 8 psi
  • Mud: 15 psi (depending on bottom, compensate for rocks/holes/branches)
  • Beach Sand: 10-12 psi

*Suggested tire pressures should be adjusted to meet the specific requirements of your vehicle and conditions.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your X-BULL Recovery Traction Tracks, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: After each use, especially in mud or sand, clean the tracks thoroughly with water to remove any debris. This prevents material buildup that could reduce effectiveness.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the tracks for any signs of damage, such as cracks, deep gouges, or worn teeth. While designed to be durable, extreme use can cause wear.
  • Storage: Store the tracks in a cool, dry place, preferably in the provided carry bag, away from prolonged direct sunlight when not in use. Although UV resistant, proper storage helps extend their lifespan.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues while using your X-BULL Recovery Traction Tracks, consider the following:

  • Lack of Traction: Ensure the tracks are firmly wedged against the tire tread and as low as possible. Excessive wheel spin can polish the track surface or damage the teeth, reducing grip. Reposition the tracks and attempt to drive slowly.
  • Vehicle Not Moving: Verify that the vehicle's underside is not resting on the ground, preventing the tires from engaging the tracks. Clear any obstructions. Ensure appropriate tire pressure for the terrain.
  • Track Damage: If a track is damaged during use, it may still be functional depending on the severity. However, severely damaged tracks should be replaced to ensure safety and effectiveness. Avoid excessive wheel spin to prevent damage.
