1. Introduction

3. Setup

3.1 Initial Charging

Before first use, fully charge your inReach SE+ device using the provided USB cable. Connect the USB cable to the device's charging port and a compatible USB power source. The device's battery indicator will show charging status.

3.2 Satellite Subscription

A satellite subscription is required to access Iridium satellite network features, including two-way messaging and SOS. Visit the Garmin inReach website to select and activate a suitable subscription plan. Plans can be monthly or annual, with options to suspend service as needed.

3.3 Device Activation

Follow the on-screen prompts on your inReach SE+ device to complete the activation process after purchasing a subscription. This typically involves syncing the device with your online account.

3.4 Earthmate App Pairing

Download the free Earthmate app to your compatible mobile device. Enable Bluetooth on both your inReach SE+ and mobile device. Follow the app's instructions to pair the devices. This allows access to downloadable maps, U.S. NOAA charts, and color aerial imagery on your mobile device, enhancing navigation and communication capabilities.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Power On/Off

• To Power On: Press and hold the power button located on the side of the device until the screen illuminates.
• To Power Off: Press and hold the power button until the power-off prompt appears, then select 'Power Off'.

4.2 Two-Way Messaging

The inReach SE+ allows you to send and receive text messages to phone numbers or email addresses globally. Navigate to the 'Messages' option on the main menu. You can select from preset messages or compose custom messages using the on-screen keyboard and directional buttons. Ensure a clear view of the sky for optimal satellite connection.

4.3 Interactive SOS

In case of an emergency, the interactive SOS feature connects you to the GEOS 24/7 search and rescue monitoring center. To activate SOS, lift the protective cap on the side of the device and press the SOS button. You will be able to communicate with GEOS to describe your situation and receive confirmation that help is on the way. Only use this feature in genuine emergency situations.

4.4 GPS Navigation & Tracking

The device includes built-in GPS for basic navigation, allowing you to view your current location, track your route with a breadcrumb trail, and set waypoints. You can also enable location tracking to share your whereabouts with pre-selected contacts or emergency responders. Tracking intervals can be configured to manage battery life.

4.5 Weather Forecasts

Access weather forecasts directly on your device. Navigate to the 'Weather' option to request basic or premium weather information for your current location or a specified waypoint. This feature requires an active satellite subscription and may incur additional charges depending on your plan.

The inReach SE+ offers extended battery life, varying based on usage:

• Up to 100 hours in 10-minute tracking mode (default).
• Up to 75 hours in 10-minute tracking with 1-second logging.
• Up to 30 days in 30-minute interval power save mode.
• Up to 3 years when powered off.

The device charges via a standard USB cable. Ensure the charging port cover is securely closed when not charging to maintain water resistance.

• Cleaning: Clean the device with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
• Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. For long-term storage, ensure the battery is partially charged (around 50%) to prolong its lifespan.
• Water Resistance: The device is water-rated to IPX7. Ensure all port covers are properly sealed before exposure to water.
• Software Updates: Regularly check for and install software updates via the Garmin website or Earthmate app to ensure optimal performance and access to new features.

7. Troubleshooting

• No Satellite Signal: Ensure you have a clear, unobstructed view of the sky. Move away from tall buildings, dense tree cover, or deep canyons.
• Messaging Issues: Verify your satellite subscription is active and current. Check for any pending software updates. Ensure the device has a clear view of the sky.
• Device Not Pairing with Earthmate App: Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on both devices. Restart both the inReach SE+ and your mobile device. Ensure the Earthmate app is up to date.
• Battery Draining Quickly: Adjust tracking intervals to a longer duration. Reduce screen brightness. Ensure no background applications are excessively consuming power.
