Getting Started: Setup and Initial Use

Included Components

Your Nikon D5600 package typically includes the camera body, an EN-EL14a rechargeable Li-ion battery, a battery charger, a USB cable, a camera strap, and one or more AF-P DX NIKKOR lenses (commonly an 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR and/or a 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED lens).

Battery Installation and Charging

  1. Insert the EN-EL14a battery into the battery chamber located at the bottom of the camera. Ensure it clicks into place.
  2. Charge the battery using the supplied charger. The charging indicator light will show the charging status.

Memory Card Insertion

The D5600 supports SD/SDHC/SDXC (UHS-I) memory cards. For optimal performance, especially with video recording and continuous shooting, a UHS-1 type, class 3 memory card with at least 64GB of storage is recommended.

  1. Open the memory card slot cover on the side of the camera.
  2. Insert the memory card with the label facing the back of the camera until it clicks.
  3. Close the memory card slot cover.

Lens Attachment and Detachment

  1. To attach a lens, align the mounting mark on the lens with the mounting mark on the camera body. Rotate the lens clockwise until it clicks into place.
  2. To detach a lens, press the lens release button on the camera body and rotate the lens counter-clockwise.

Strap Attachment

Attach the camera strap to the strap lugs on the camera body for secure handling.

The mode dial on the top of the camera allows you to select various shooting modes:

Image Quality Settings (RAW Mode)
