5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Nyko Data Bank Plus, follow these general maintenance guidelines:

  • Keep the unit clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Avoid exposing the unit to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.
  • Do not block the ventilation openings on the Data Bank Plus or the PS4.
  • Handle the unit and your PS4 with care to prevent physical damage.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Nyko Data Bank Plus, consider the following common solutions:

Hard Drive Not Recognized / Initialization Issues

  • Check Connections: Ensure all connections, including the Universal Cartridge, SATA cables, and power pass-through, are securely seated before booting your PS4.
  • Firmware Version: Verify that your PlayStation 4 is running firmware version 3.50 or higher. Older firmware versions may not fully support larger hard drive capacities.
  • Hard Drive Format: It is recommended to format your new hard drive (especially 3.5" drives) to exFAT using a PC before installing it into the Data Bank Plus.
  • Hard Drive Capacity: While the Data Bank Plus supports large drives, the PS4 operating system may have soft performance limitations with capacities significantly above 4TB. Issues with sleep mode or boot times may occur with very large drives (e.g., 5TB or 6TB and above) due to PS4 firmware limitations, not the Data Bank itself. Consider using a 4TB or smaller drive for optimal compatibility and performance.

Rest Mode / Suspend Mode Issues

  • If experiencing issues with Rest Mode (suspend mode) when using higher capacity drives, this is often a limitation of the PS4 firmware rather than the Data Bank Plus. Ensure your PS4 firmware is up to date, as Sony may release updates to improve compatibility.
  • Some users report that manually pressing and holding the power button for approximately 6 seconds to turn on the PS4 can help avoid booting into safe mode when using larger drives.

General Performance Issues

  • Ensure the hard drives used are in good working condition.
  • Verify that the correct hard drive is selected via the switch on the Data Bank Plus.
