5. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the performance and longevity of your amplifier. Consult a professional installer if you are unsure about any steps.

5.1 Mounting Location

Choose a dry, well-ventilated location away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Ensure sufficient airflow around the amplifier's heatsink.

5.2 Wiring Connections

Refer to the diagram below for typical wiring connections. Always use high-quality wiring.

  • Power (B+) Connection: Connect a fused power cable (8GA recommended) directly from the positive terminal of the vehicle's battery to the amplifier's B+ terminal. The fuse should be located within 18 inches of the battery.
  • Ground (GND) Connection: Connect a ground cable (8GA recommended) from the amplifier's GND terminal to a clean, bare metal point on the vehicle's chassis. Ensure a solid, low-resistance connection.
  • Remote (REM) Connection: Connect a remote turn-on wire from your head unit's remote output to the amplifier's REM terminal. This turns the amplifier on and off with your head unit.
  • Input (RCA) Connection: Connect RCA cables from your head unit's subwoofer or full-range output to the amplifier's INPUT terminals.
  • Speaker Output Connection: Connect your subwoofer(s) to the amplifier's speaker output terminals. Ensure the total impedance of the connected speakers is not less than 2 Ohms.

6. Operating Instructions

Once installed, adjust the amplifier settings for optimal audio performance.

6.1 Gain Control

The GAIN control matches the amplifier's input sensitivity to the output level of your head unit. Start with the gain at minimum and slowly increase it until the desired volume is achieved without distortion. Avoid setting the gain too high, as this can lead to clipping and speaker damage.

6.2 Low Pass Filter (LPF)

The LPF allows only frequencies below the set point to pass through to the subwoofer. Adjust this control (35-250Hz) to blend the subwoofer's output seamlessly with your main speakers.

6.3 Subsonic Filter

The SUBSONIC filter (10-50Hz) removes extremely low frequencies that are inaudible and can cause subwoofers to over-excurt, potentially leading to damage. Set this filter slightly below the tuning frequency of your ported enclosure, or around 20-25Hz for sealed enclosures.

6.4 Bass Boost

The BASS BOOST control (0-12dB at 45Hz) provides an adjustable low-frequency enhancement. Use this sparingly and with caution to avoid distortion and potential speaker damage.

7. Maintenance

The NESA TD-60 amplifier requires minimal maintenance.

  • Periodically check all wiring connections to ensure they are secure.
  • Keep the amplifier clean and free of dust and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Ensure that the ventilation fins are not obstructed to maintain proper cooling.

8. Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your amplifier, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No Power (Power LED Off)Blown fuse, poor power/ground connection, no remote signal.Check inline fuse, verify power and ground connections, ensure remote wire is connected and receiving 12V.
Protection LED OnOverheating, short circuit in speaker wiring, impedance too low.Allow amplifier to cool, check speaker wiring for shorts, verify speaker impedance is 2 Ohms or higher.
No Sound OutputRCA cables disconnected, gain too low, speaker wires disconnected.Check RCA connections, adjust gain control, verify speaker wire connections.
Distorted SoundGain set too high, improper filter settings, poor ground connection.Reduce gain, adjust LPF/Subsonic filters, check ground connection.
