This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use of your UpStart Components 16" Semi Chisel Saw Chain, designed for Echo CS-330EVL Chainsaws. This product is a 2-pack replacement chain loop.

Key features include:

  • High performance chain for smooth cuts.
  • Engineered for precision, balance, and safety.
  • Reduced vibration levels for consistent cuts and greater user comfort.
  • Designed for durability to keep the chain sharper longer.

Important Safety Information

WARNING: This saw chain may be capable of kickback that could result in serious injury to the chainsaw operator or bystanders. DO NOT USE THIS SAW CHAIN UNLESS YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE AND SPECIALIZED TRAINING FOR DEALING WITH KICKBACK. Please refer to your chainsaw User Manual for proper chain installation and maintenance.

Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when operating a chainsaw, including eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, and protective footwear.

Setup and Installation

Proper installation of the saw chain is crucial for safety and performance. Always consult your chainsaw's specific user manual for detailed instructions on chain replacement.

  1. Verify Compatibility: Before installation, ensure the new chain matches the specifications of your chainsaw's bar. This chain is 16 inches long with a 3/8" Low Profile Pitch, 0.050" Gauge, and 56 Drive Links. Note that the same saw model can have different bar lengths, so always confirm pitch, gauge, and drive links.
  2. Prepare Chainsaw: Ensure the chainsaw is turned off, the spark plug cap is disconnected (for gas models), or the battery is removed (for electric models) to prevent accidental starting. Engage the chain brake.
  3. Remove Old Chain: Loosen the bar nuts and remove the clutch cover. Carefully remove the old chain from the guide bar and sprocket.
  4. Inspect Components: Check the guide bar for wear, burrs, or damage. Inspect the drive sprocket for wear. Replace any worn components.
  5. Install New Chain: Place the new chain around the drive sprocket, ensuring the cutting edges face the correct direction (usually forward on the top of the bar). Fit the chain into the groove of the guide bar.
  6. Position Guide Bar: Slide the guide bar back into position, ensuring the chain tensioner pin engages with the hole in the bar.
  7. Adjust Chain Tension: While holding the tip of the guide bar up, tighten the chain tensioning screw until the chain fits snugly against the bottom of the guide bar. The chain should be able to be pulled freely around the bar by hand, but the drive links should not come out of the bar groove.
  8. Secure Clutch Cover: Reinstall the clutch cover and tighten the bar nuts. Recheck chain tension after tightening.

Operating Guidelines

This saw chain is designed for cutting wood. Always operate your chainsaw according to the manufacturer's instructions provided in your chainsaw's user manual.

  • Ensure the chain is properly tensioned before each use. A loose chain can derail, causing injury or damage.
  • Always use proper chainsaw technique to minimize the risk of kickback.
  • Do not use a dull or damaged chain. A dull chain increases the risk of kickback and puts unnecessary strain on the chainsaw.
  • Keep the chain lubricated with appropriate bar and chain oil during operation.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance extends the life of your saw chain and ensures safe operation.

  • Sharpening: Sharpen the chain regularly to maintain cutting efficiency and reduce kickback risk. Use a round file of the correct diameter (typically 5/32" for 3/8" Low Profile chains) and a flat file for depth gauges. Follow the sharpening angles specified in your chainsaw manual.
  • Cleaning: After each use, clean the chain to remove sawdust, resin, and debris.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the chain for bent, cracked, or broken links, cutters, or rivets. Replace the chain if any damage is found.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the chain in a clean, dry place. Applying a light coat of oil can prevent rust.

Avoid injuries by replacing dull or damaged chains with a sharp new chain.
