4. Setup Instructions

4.1. Connecting Power

  1. Connect the provided 24V 2.5A power adapter to the 'Power' input port (DC10-57V) on the router.
  2. Plug the IEC cord into the power adapter and then into a suitable power outlet.
  3. Alternatively, the device can be powered via Passive PoE-in on Ethernet port 1.

4.2. Network Connections

  1. Connect your internet source (e.g., modem) to Ethernet port 1 (labeled 'Internet' or 'PoE in').
  2. Connect your local network devices (computers, switches, access points) to Ethernet ports 2-5 (labeled 'LAN PoE out'). These ports can provide power to compatible devices.
  3. If using an SFP module for fiber connectivity, insert the SFP module into the SFP port.

4.3. Initial Configuration

The hEX PoE RB960PGS runs MikroTik's RouterOS. Initial configuration can be done via a web browser or WinBox utility.

  • Connect your computer directly to one of the LAN ports (e.g., port 2).
  • Open a web browser and navigate to the default IP address (usually http://192.168.88.1).
  • Log in with the default username (admin) and no password. It is highly recommended to set a strong password immediately.
  • Follow the Quick Set interface for basic internet and network setup, or access the full RouterOS configuration for advanced settings.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Basic Routing

The router will automatically establish an internet connection if configured correctly. It acts as a DHCP server for your local network, assigning IP addresses to connected devices.

5.2. Power over Ethernet (PoE) Output

Ethernet ports 2-5 are capable of providing Power over Ethernet (PoE) output. This allows you to power other PoE-capable devices, such as IP cameras or wireless access points, directly from the router, reducing cable clutter.

  • The PoE output voltage is the same as the input voltage supplied to the router. Ensure connected devices are compatible with this voltage range.
  • Maximum current is 1A per port.
  • The router supports 802.3at PoE output.

5.3. SFP Port Usage

The SFP port allows for optical fiber connectivity, providing high-speed and long-distance network links. Insert a compatible SFP module into the port and connect your fiber optic cable.

5.4. USB Port Usage

The USB 2.0 port can be used for various purposes, including connecting external storage devices, 3G/4G modems, or other USB peripherals supported by RouterOS.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Firmware Updates

Regularly update RouterOS firmware to ensure optimal performance, security, and access to new features. Updates can be performed via the RouterOS web interface or WinBox.

6.2. Cleaning

Keep the device clean and free from dust to prevent overheating. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners.

6.3. Environmental Considerations

Ensure the router is placed in a well-ventilated area. Avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1. No Power

If the device does not power on, check the power adapter and IEC cord connections. Ensure the power outlet is functional. If using PoE-in, verify the PoE source is active and providing sufficient power.

7.2. No Network Connectivity

Verify all Ethernet cables are securely connected. Check the LED indicators on the ports for link activity. Ensure your internet service is active. If issues persist, try restarting the router.

7.3. Resetting the Device

To reset the device to factory default settings, locate the 'Reset' button. With the device powered on, press and hold the reset button for approximately 5 seconds until the PWR LED starts flashing. Release the button to initiate the reset process.
