Setup

1. Mounting the Amplifier:

Choose a secure, well-ventilated location for mounting the amplifier. Ensure it is protected from moisture and direct heat. Use the provided mounting hardware to firmly attach the amplifier to a solid surface in your vehicle.

2. Wiring Connections:

Before making any connections, disconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal.

  1. Power Connection (+12V): Connect a 4-gauge power cable from the vehicle's positive battery terminal to the +12V terminal on the amplifier. Install an in-line fuse (not exceeding 60A) within 18 inches of the battery.
  2. Ground Connection (GND): Connect a 4-gauge ground cable from the GND terminal on the amplifier to a clean, unpainted metal surface on the vehicle's chassis. Ensure a solid, low-resistance connection.
  3. Remote Turn-On (REM): Connect a 18-gauge remote turn-on wire from your head unit's remote output to the REM terminal on the amplifier. This wire turns the amplifier on and off with your head unit.
  4. Speaker Output: Connect your speakers to the SPEAKER OUTPUT terminals. For 2-channel stereo operation, connect one speaker to the Left terminals (+ and -) and another to the Right terminals (+ and -). For bridged mono operation (e.g., for a subwoofer), connect to the BRIDGED terminals as indicated on the amplifier. Use 12-gauge speaker wire.
  5. Audio Input (RCA or High Level):
    • Low Level Input (RCA): Connect RCA cables from your head unit's RCA outputs to the INPUT L and R jacks on the amplifier.
    • High Level Input: If your head unit does not have RCA outputs, use the High Level Input. Connect the speaker wires from your head unit to the HIGH IN connector.

Operating Instructions

Once the amplifier is installed and wired, you can adjust its settings for optimal audio performance.

Image: Close-up of the amplifier's front panel, detailing the RCA input jacks, crossover controls (HPF, LPF, Subsonic), Treble, Bass, and Gain adjustment knobs.

  1. Gain Adjustment: The GAIN knob controls the input sensitivity. Start with the gain set to minimum. Play a familiar track at about 75% volume on your head unit. Slowly increase the amplifier's gain until you hear slight distortion, then back it off slightly.
  2. Crossover Settings: The RE2-1000D features variable 12dB High, Low, and Subsonic Crossovers, as well as Band-Pass Crossovers.
    • HPF (High-Pass Filter): Allows frequencies above the set point to pass through. Useful for full-range speakers to prevent low bass distortion.
    • LPF (Low-Pass Filter): Allows frequencies below the set point to pass through. Essential for subwoofers to reproduce only bass frequencies.
    • Subsonic Filter: Filters out extremely low frequencies that are inaudible and can damage subwoofers.
    • Band-Pass Crossover: Allows a specific range of frequencies to pass through.
  3. Treble and Bass Controls: Use the TREBLE and BASS knobs to fine-tune the high and low frequencies to your preference. Start at the center (flat) position and make small adjustments.
  4. Tri-Mode Operation: This amplifier is Tri-Mode capable, allowing it to power both a subwoofer and a pair of full-range speakers simultaneously. Refer to the wiring diagram in the full owner's manual for specific Tri-Mode setup instructions.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your amplifier.

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the amplifier's exterior. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the amplifier's heatsink fins are free from dust and debris to maintain proper cooling. Periodically check for any obstructions around the amplifier.
  • Connections: Periodically check all wiring connections for tightness and corrosion. Loose connections can lead to poor performance or damage.
  • Fuses: If the amplifier stops working, check the fuses. Replace blown fuses only with fuses of the same type and rating (30A x 2).

Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your amplifier, consult the table below for common problems and solutions.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
