2. Important Safety Information

WARNING: This saw chain is NOT an ANSI Approved Low Kickback Chain. It may be capable of kickback that could result in serious injury to the chainsaw operator or bystanders.

DO NOT USE THIS SAW CHAIN UNLESS YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE AND SPECIALIZED TRAINING FOR DEALING WITH KICKBACK.

Always refer to your chainsaw's User Manual for proper chain installation, maintenance, and safety procedures. Adhere to all safety guidelines provided by your chainsaw manufacturer.

  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, and protective legwear, when operating a chainsaw.
  • Ensure the chainsaw is turned off and the spark plug cap is removed before performing any installation or maintenance.
  • Inspect the chain, guide bar, and sprocket for damage or wear before each use.
  • Maintain proper tension of the saw chain as specified by your chainsaw manufacturer.

3. Setup and Installation

Proper installation of the saw chain is critical for safe and efficient operation. Always consult your chainsaw's specific user manual for detailed, model-specific instructions.

3.1. Pre-Installation Check

  • Verify that the new chain's pitch, gauge, and drive links match the specifications required for your chainsaw's guide bar. This chain is 3/8" Pitch, 0.050" Gauge, and has 72 Drive Links.
  • Ensure the chainsaw is powered off and cooled down.
  • Remove the spark plug cap to prevent accidental starting.

3.2. Installation Steps

  1. Loosen the guide bar nuts and remove the clutch cover.
  2. Remove the old chain and guide bar. Clean any sawdust or debris from the clutch area and guide bar groove.
  3. Place the new chain onto the drive sprocket, ensuring the cutting edges are facing the correct direction (towards the top of the guide bar, away from the engine).
  4. Fit the chain into the groove of the guide bar.
  5. Reattach the guide bar and clutch cover, ensuring the chain tensioner pin engages correctly with the guide bar hole.
  6. Hand-tighten the guide bar nuts.
  7. Adjust the chain tension. The chain should be snug against the guide bar but still able to be pulled freely by hand. It should not sag on the underside of the bar. Refer to your chainsaw manual for precise tensioning instructions.
  8. Tighten the guide bar nuts securely.
  9. Replace the spark plug cap.

4. Operating Considerations

While this product is a component, its characteristics directly impact chainsaw operation. This chain is engineered for precision, balance, and safety, offering reduced vibration levels for consistent cuts and greater user comfort.

  • Break-in Period: New chains may stretch slightly during initial use. Check chain tension frequently during the first hour of operation and adjust as necessary.
  • Kickback Awareness: As this is a full chisel chain and not a low kickback design, always be acutely aware of kickback potential. Maintain a firm grip, proper stance, and avoid cutting with the tip of the guide bar.
  • Lubrication: Ensure your chainsaw's automatic oiler is functioning correctly and providing adequate lubrication to the chain and guide bar during operation.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance extends the life of your saw chain and ensures safe, efficient cutting performance. Avoid injuries by replacing dull or damaged chains with a sharp new chain.

5.1. Sharpening

Maintain the sharpness of the cutting teeth. A dull chain will not cut efficiently, can cause excessive wear on the chainsaw, and increases the risk of kickback. Refer to your chainsaw manual or a professional guide for proper sharpening angles and techniques for full chisel chains.

5.2. Cleaning and Inspection

  • After each use, clean the chain to remove sap, pitch, and sawdust.
  • Inspect each link for damage, cracks, or excessive wear. Replace the chain if any damage is found.
  • Check drive links for burrs or deformation.

5.3. Storage

When not in use, store the chain in a clean, dry place to prevent rust and corrosion. Applying a light coat of oil can help protect it during extended storage.

6. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues related to the saw chain. For chainsaw-specific problems, consult your chainsaw's user manual.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Chain not cutting efficientlyDull cutting teeth, incorrect sharpening angle, insufficient chain oil.Sharpen chain, verify sharpening angle, check chainsaw oiler.
Chain binding or smokingIncorrect chain tension (too tight), insufficient lubrication, damaged guide bar groove.Adjust chain tension, check oiler, inspect and replace guide bar if damaged.
Chain comes off guide barIncorrect chain tension (too loose), worn drive sprocket, worn guide bar rails.Adjust chain tension, inspect and replace sprocket or guide bar if worn.
Excessive vibrationDamaged or bent chain links, unevenly sharpened teeth.Inspect chain for damage and replace if necessary, ensure even sharpening.
