1. Introduction

The Mares Smart Wrist Dive Computer is an ergonomic, watch-style accessory designed for both recreational and technical diving. It offers multiple modes and features to enhance your underwater experience and ensure safety.

2. Setup

2.1 Initial Activation

Upon first use or after a prolonged period of inactivity, the computer may be in sleep mode. Press any button to activate the display.

2.2 Basic Settings

Navigate through the settings menu using the side buttons to configure the following:

  • Time and Date: Set the current time and date.
  • Units: Select preferred units (metric/imperial) for depth, temperature, etc.
  • Water Type: Choose between fresh or salt water for accurate depth calculations.
  • Alarms: Customize audible and visual alarms for depth, dive time, ascent rate, and decompression limits.

2.3 Nitrox Settings

If diving with Nitrox, ensure the correct oxygen percentage (FO2) is set before each dive. The Mares Smart supports dual gas capability, allowing for two different Nitrox mixes to be pre-set and switched during the dive.

  1. Enter the Nitrox settings menu.
  2. Adjust FO2 for Gas 1 (up to 99%).
  3. If using, adjust FO2 for Gas 2.

3. Operating the Dive Computer

The Mares Smart Dive Computer features an intuitive interface with two side buttons for navigation and selection.

3.1 Dive Modes

The computer offers several operational modes:

  • Air Mode: For diving with standard air.
  • Nitrox Mode: For diving with oxygen-enriched air.
  • Bottom Timer Mode: Measures dive time and average depth without decompression calculations.
  • Freediving Mode: Optimized for apnea, with specific alarms and data display.

3.2 Pre-Dive Planning

Before each dive, utilize the pre-dive planning function to simulate dives based on your gas mix, maximum depth, and bottom time. This helps in understanding potential decompression obligations.

3.3 During the Dive

The display provides real-time information including current depth, maximum depth, dive time, no-decompression limit (NDL), ascent rate, and temperature. Alarms will activate if critical limits are approached or exceeded.

3.4 Post-Dive Review

After surfacing, the computer will display surface interval time and no-fly time. All dive data is stored in the logbook and can be reviewed on the device or downloaded to a computer.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Rinsing

After each dive, rinse the computer thoroughly with fresh water to remove salt, sand, and other debris. Ensure all buttons are pressed multiple times during rinsing to flush out any trapped particles.

4.2 Drying and Storage

Dry the computer completely before storage. Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Avoid storing it in airtight containers when wet.
