2. Safety Information

WARNING: Read all safety warnings and instructions before using the battery. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.

  • Do not disassemble, open, or shred battery pack or cells.
  • Do not short-circuit a battery pack. Do not store battery packs haphazardly in a box or drawer where they may short-circuit each other or be short-circuited by conductive materials.
  • Do not expose battery pack to heat or fire. Avoid storage in direct sunlight.
  • Do not subject battery pack to mechanical shock.
  • In the event of battery leakage, do not allow the liquid to come into contact with the skin or eyes. If contact has been made, wash the affected area with copious amounts of water and seek medical advice.
  • Keep battery pack clean and dry.
  • Do not use any charger other than that specifically provided for use with the equipment.
  • Observe the plus (+) and minus (-) marks on the battery and equipment and ensure correct use.
  • Keep battery pack out of the reach of children.
  • Seek medical advice immediately if a battery pack has been swallowed.
  • Do not use a battery pack that is not designed for use with the equipment.
  • Do not mix cells of different manufacture, capacity, size, or type within a device.
  • Dispose of spent battery packs promptly and according to local regulations.
  • Only charge with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack.

3. Setup and Installation

This section describes how to properly install and remove the Makita BL1830B battery from compatible tools.

3.1 Installing the Battery

  1. Ensure the tool is switched off and any moving parts have come to a complete stop.
  2. Align the battery pack with the battery housing on the tool. The battery is designed to slide into place in one direction only.
  3. Slide the battery into the tool until it clicks securely into place. Do not force the battery. If it does not slide in easily, ensure it is correctly aligned.
  4. Gently pull on the battery to confirm it is locked. If it slides out, re-insert it until it locks.

3.2 Removing the Battery

  1. Ensure the tool is switched off.
  2. Locate the battery release button(s) on the side of the battery pack or tool.
  3. Press and hold the release button(s) while sliding the battery out of the tool.
  4. Store the battery in a safe, dry place away from conductive materials.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Charging the Battery

The Makita BL1830B battery requires a compatible Makita charger (sold separately) for charging. For optimal performance and battery life, use a Makita Rapid Optimum Charger.

4.2 Monitoring Battery Charge Level

The BL1830B battery features an integrated L.E.D. charge level indicator to help you monitor the remaining power.

  1. Press the white button located next to the LED indicators on the battery pack.
  2. The LED lights will illuminate to show the current charge level:
    • 4 Lights: 75% - 100% charge
    • 3 Lights: 50% - 75% charge
    • 2 Lights: 25% - 50% charge
    • 1 Light: 0% - 25% charge (recharge soon)

5. Maintenance and Storage
