5. Operating Instructions

  1. Preheating:
    • Plug the grill into a standard electrical outlet. The red "Power" indicator light will illuminate.
    • Turn the temperature control dial to your desired setting. For most grilling, a medium to high setting is recommended.
    • Allow the grill to preheat. The green "Ready" indicator light will illuminate when the grill has reached the set temperature. This typically takes 5-6 minutes.
  2. Grilling in Closed Position (Panini Press):
    • Once preheated, carefully place your food (e.g., panini, sandwich, hamburger) onto the bottom grill plate.
    • Gently lower the top grill plate onto the food. The floating hinge will adjust to the thickness of your food.
    • Cook until desired doneness is achieved. Cooking times will vary based on food type and thickness. For example, hamburgers may cook in approximately 4 minutes at maximum temperature.
  3. Grilling in 180-Degree Open Position:
    • To use the grill as an open grill, gently push the release button on the side of the hinge and carefully open the top plate until it lies flat, creating a larger grilling surface.
    • Place food on both grilling surfaces. This is ideal for cooking multiple items like chicken breasts or brochettes.
    • Monitor food closely as cooking times may vary.
  4. Temperature Control: Use the dial to adjust the heat. Higher settings are suitable for searing and faster cooking, while lower settings are for gentle cooking or keeping food warm.
  5. Removing Food: Use heat-resistant plastic or wooden utensils to remove food from the grill plates to avoid damaging the non-stick coating.
  6. After Use: Turn the temperature dial to "off" and unplug the grill from the outlet. Allow the grill to cool completely before cleaning.

  1. Cool Down: Always ensure the grill is unplugged and completely cool before attempting to clean it.
  2. Remove Grill Plates: Press the release buttons to detach the grill plates.
  3. Clean Grill Plates:
    • The grill plates are dishwasher safe for convenient cleaning.
    • Alternatively, wash them by hand with warm, soapy water and a non-abrasive sponge or cloth.
    • For stubborn food residue, soak the plates in warm water for a few minutes before cleaning.
    • Use the provided cleaning tool (grattoir) to scrape off any stuck-on food particles without damaging the non-stick surface.
    • Rinse thoroughly and dry completely before reattaching or storing.

If you encounter issues with your Starfrit The Rock Electric Panini Grill, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Grill does not heat up.Not plugged in; power outlet malfunction; appliance malfunction.Ensure the grill is securely plugged into a working electrical outlet. Check the circuit breaker. If the issue persists, contact customer support.
Green "Ready" light does not illuminate.Grill has not reached set temperature; temperature dial set too low.Allow more time for preheating. Ensure the temperature dial is set to a desired cooking temperature, not "off" or minimum.
Food cooks unevenly.Uneven food thickness; grill not fully preheated; internal heating element issue.Ensure food is evenly distributed and not excessively thick. Allow the grill to fully preheat until the "Ready" light illuminates. If uneven heating persists, it may indicate an internal issue.
Food sticks to plates.Plates not properly cleaned; excessive residue; non-stick coating wear.Ensure plates are thoroughly cleaned before each use. Avoid using metal utensils. While the Roc.Tec coating is durable, extreme wear over time can reduce non-stick properties.
