1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for setting up, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting your Motorola Moto Z Play (XT1635) smartphone. Please read this guide thoroughly to ensure proper use and to maximize your device's capabilities.

2. Setup

2.1 Inserting the SIM Card and MicroSD Card

The Moto Z Play (XT1635) supports a nano-SIM card and a microSD card for expandable storage up to 256GB. Locate the SIM/microSD tray on the side of the device. Use the provided SIM ejection tool to open the tray. Carefully place your nano-SIM card and microSD card into their respective slots on the tray, ensuring correct orientation. Insert the tray back into the phone until it clicks into place.

2.2 Initial Power On and Charging

Press and hold the power button located on the side of the phone until the Motorola logo appears. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the initial setup, including language selection, Wi-Fi connection, and Google account setup. Before first use, it is recommended to fully charge your device using the provided USB-C cable and charger. The TurboPower feature allows for up to 9 hours of power with just 15 minutes of charging.

2.3 Network Compatibility

This Motorola Moto Z Play (XT1635) is an international unlocked version. It is compatible with GSM carriers such as AT&T and T-Mobile. It is not compatible with CDMA carriers such as Verizon and Sprint. Please verify that your cellular carrier supports the bands for this model (MT-XT1635-32GB-WHTEU) to ensure full functionality, as LTE availability may vary in certain regions.

3. Operating Your Device

3.1 Basic Navigation and Android 6.0.1

Your device runs on Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow). Navigate through the interface using touch gestures: tap to select, swipe to scroll, pinch to zoom. The home screen provides quick access to your apps and widgets. You can customize your home screen by adding or removing icons and widgets.

3.2 Fingerprint Scanner

The fingerprint scanner is integrated into the front of the device. To set up your fingerprint, go to Settings > Security > Fingerprint and follow the on-screen instructions. Once set up, you can use your fingerprint to unlock your phone and authorize purchases.

3.3 Camera Usage

The Moto Z Play features a 16 MP laser autofocus primary camera and a 5 MP front camera. To open the camera, tap the camera icon on your home screen or swipe up from the bottom right corner of the lock screen. Tap the screen to focus, and press the shutter button to take a photo. 3.4 Moto Mods

The Moto Z Play is designed to transform with Moto Mods using interchangeable back covers. These modular accessories attach magnetically to the back of your phone, expanding its functionality. Your device includes a standard back cover. Other Moto Mods are sold separately.

3.5 Battery Life and TurboPower

The Moto Z Play is equipped with a battery designed for extended use, offering up to 50 hours of battery life under optimal conditions. Utilize the TurboPower charger for rapid charging, providing significant power in a short amount of time.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Software Updates

Your device will periodically receive software updates to improve performance, add new features, and enhance security. When an update is available, you will receive a notification. It is recommended to install updates over a Wi-Fi connection and with sufficient battery charge.

4.2 Cleaning the Device

To clean your phone, use a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or aerosol sprays, as these can damage the screen or finish. Do not expose the device to excessive moisture.

4.3 Battery Care

To prolong battery life, avoid exposing your phone to extreme temperatures. Do not leave your phone charging for extended periods after it has reached 100% capacity. For optimal performance, use only Motorola-approved chargers and cables.

4.4 Storage Management

Your device comes with 32GB of internal storage. To manage your storage, go to Settings > Storage & USB. You can free up space by uninstalling unused apps, deleting old photos/videos, or moving files to the microSD card.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 Common Issues

  • Device not turning on: Ensure the battery is charged. Connect the charger and try again.
  • Network connectivity issues: Verify your SIM card is properly inserted. Check your carrier's signal strength. Remember this is an international GSM-only device.
  • Apps crashing or freezing: Try restarting the app. If the issue persists, restart the phone. Clear the app's cache via Settings > Apps.
  • Slow performance: Close unused apps. Clear cache and temporary files. Consider a factory reset as a last resort.

5.2 Factory Reset

A factory reset will erase all data from your phone and restore it to its original factory settings. Backup all important data before proceeding. To perform a factory reset, go to Settings > Backup & reset > Factory data reset and follow the prompts.
