1. Product Overview
The Lutron Maestro Occupancy Detection Switch (MS-OPS2H-WH) integrates a standard light switch with a passive infrared (PIR) occupancy sensor. This device is designed to automatically control lighting based on the presence or absence of occupants in a room. The sensor detects the heat signatures of moving individuals within its detection zone, activating or deactivating the connected load (e.g., lights) accordingly.

2. Safety Information
WARNING: Risk of Electric Shock. Improper installation can result in serious injury or death. Always turn off power at the circuit breaker or fuse box before installing or servicing this device. This product must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with all local and national electrical codes.
- Do not use with loads exceeding the specified ratings.
- Install indoors only.
- Ensure all wire connections are secure and properly insulated.
- Grounding is required for safe operation.
3. Installation (Setup)
- Turn Off Power: Locate the circuit breaker or fuse that controls the power to the switch location. Turn it OFF. Verify power is off by attempting to turn on the light controlled by the switch.
- Remove Existing Switch: Carefully remove the wall plate and unscrew the existing switch from the wall box. Disconnect the wires from the old switch, noting which wire was connected to which terminal.
- Wire the New Switch: Connect the wires from the wall box to the Lutron MS-OPS2H-WH switch according to the wiring diagram provided with the product packaging. Typically, this involves connecting the hot (line), load, neutral (if present), and ground wires. Ensure all connections are tight.
- Mount the Switch: Gently push the wired switch into the wall box. Secure it with the provided screws.
- Attach Wall Plate: Install the decorative wall plate over the switch.
- Restore Power: Turn the power back ON at the circuit breaker or fuse box.
Note: If you are unsure about any wiring steps, consult a qualified electrician.
4. Operation
The MS-OPS2H-WH switch operates in two primary modes: Occupancy Sensing and Vacancy Sensing. The default mode is typically Occupancy Sensing (lights turn ON automatically when motion is detected and OFF when the room is vacant).
- Automatic ON/OFF: In Occupancy mode, the sensor detects movement and automatically turns the connected lights ON. After a preset time delay with no detected motion, the lights will automatically turn OFF.
- Manual ON/Automatic OFF: In Vacancy mode, the lights must be turned ON manually by pressing the switch button. They will then turn OFF automatically after a preset time delay with no detected motion.
- Manual Control: You can manually turn the lights ON or OFF at any time by pressing the large paddle switch.
Refer to the detailed instructions included in the product packaging for information on adjusting sensitivity and time-out settings, as these may vary by model revision.
5. Maintenance
The Lutron MS-OPS2H-WH switch requires minimal maintenance.
- Cleaning: To clean the surface of the switch and wall plate, use a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or chemical sprays, as these can damage the finish or internal components.
- Obstruction: Ensure the sensor lens is not obstructed by furniture, decorations, or other objects, as this can impair its ability to detect motion.
