Figure 1: Front Panel of the GW Instek GPE-3323 DC Power Supply. The image displays the front panel of the GW Instek GPE-3323 DC Power Supply. On the left, a digital display shows voltage and current settings for two channels (CH1 and CH2), currently set to 32.00V and 3.000A for both. The display also indicates 'Lock' and 'OFF' states. To the right of the display are control knobs for Voltage and Current for CH1 and CH2, along with buttons for 'Series', 'Parallel', and 'Independent' operation modes. Below these controls are the output terminals for CH1 (0-32V, 3A), CH2 (0-32V, 3A), a common ground (GND), and CH3 (5V, 5A fixed output). A large 'POWER' button is located on the far left, and an 'On/Off' button for the output is on the right side of the control panel.

2.1 Front Panel Layout

  • Digital Display: Shows real-time voltage and current values for CH1 and CH2, along with status indicators like 'Set', 'Lock', and 'OFF'.
  • Voltage/Current Knobs (CH1, CH2): Used to adjust the output voltage and current limits for Channel 1 and Channel 2.
  • Operation Mode Buttons (Series, Parallel, Independent): Selects the output configuration for CH1 and CH2.
  • Set View Button: Allows viewing of set voltage/current values without affecting output.
  • On/Off Button: Toggles the output power for the selected channels.
  • Lock Button: Engages or disengages the front panel lock function to prevent accidental changes.
  • Output Terminals (CH1, CH2, CH3, GND): Connection points for positive (+) and negative (-) leads for each channel, and a common ground terminal. CH1 and CH2 are adjustable (0-32V, 3A), while CH3 provides a fixed 5V, 5A output.
  • POWER Button: Main power switch for the entire unit.

3. Setup

3.1 Unpacking and Inspection

  1. Carefully remove the power supply from its packaging.
  2. Inspect the unit for any signs of physical damage that may have occurred during transit. If damage is found, contact your supplier immediately.
  3. Verify that all accessories listed in the packing list are present.

3.2 Power Connection

  1. Ensure the main POWER button on the front panel is in the OFF position.
  2. Connect the provided AC power cord to the power input socket on the rear panel of the instrument.
  3. Plug the other end of the AC power cord into a properly grounded electrical outlet. The power supply supports 100-230VAC input.

3.3 Initial Power-On

  1. Press the main POWER button on the front panel. The display should illuminate.
  2. Observe the display for any error messages or unusual behavior.
  3. The unit is now ready for operation.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Basic Operation (Single Channel)

  1. Ensure the power supply is turned on.
  2. Connect your load to the desired output terminals (e.g., CH1 + and -).
  3. Use the Voltage knob for CH1 to set the desired output voltage. The display will show the 'Set' value.
  4. Use the Current knob for CH1 to set the desired current limit. This acts as a maximum current protection.
  5. Press the 'On/Off' button for CH1 to enable the output. The display will now show the actual output voltage and current.
  6. To disable the output, press the 'On/Off' button again.

4.2 CH3 Fixed Output

Channel 3 provides a fixed output of 5V at 5A. To use CH3, simply connect your load to the CH3 + and - terminals. No voltage or current adjustments are required for this channel. The output for CH3 is typically always active when the unit is powered on, but refer to the full manual for specific activation details if an independent On/Off control exists.

4.3 Series and Parallel Operation (CH1/CH2)

The GPE-3323 allows CH1 and CH2 to be configured for series or parallel operation to achieve higher voltage or current outputs.

  • Series Operation: Press the 'Series' button. This connects CH1 and CH2 in series, effectively doubling the maximum voltage (up to 64V) while maintaining the individual channel's current limit (3A). Connect the load across the designated series output terminals (typically CH1+ and CH2- or specific series output terminals if available).
  • Parallel Operation: Press the 'Parallel' button. This connects CH1 and CH2 in parallel, effectively doubling the maximum current (up to 6A) while maintaining the individual channel's voltage limit (32V). Connect the load across the designated parallel output terminals (typically CH1+ and CH2+ for positive, CH1- and CH2- for negative, or specific parallel output terminals if available).
  • Independent Operation: Press the 'Independent' button to return CH1 and CH2 to their separate, independently controllable states.

4.4 Output On/Off Control

Each adjustable channel (CH1, CH2) has an independent 'On/Off' button. This allows you to enable or disable the output power to your load without changing the set voltage and current values. The display will indicate 'OFF' when the output is disabled.

4.5 Lock Function

The 'Lock' button on the front panel prevents accidental changes to the set voltage and current values. Press and hold the 'Lock' button for a few seconds to activate or deactivate this function. When active, the display will show a 'Lock' indicator, and the control knobs will be unresponsive.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Disconnect the power supply from the AC mains before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the power supply in a clean, dry environment away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation openings on the unit are not obstructed during operation to prevent overheating.
  • Calibration: Periodic calibration by qualified personnel is recommended to maintain measurement accuracy. Refer to the official GW Instek service guidelines for recommended calibration intervals.
