5. Operating Instructions
Once your router is set up, you can manage its various functions:
5.1 Dual-Band Wi-Fi
The Archer C60 operates on two frequency bands:
- 2.4GHz Band: Provides wider coverage and better penetration through walls, suitable for general internet use and older devices.
- 5GHz Band: Offers faster speeds and less interference, ideal for high-bandwidth activities like streaming 4K video and online gaming, but with a shorter range.
You can connect your devices to either network based on your needs. The router typically broadcasts two separate SSIDs (network names) for each band.
5.2 Guest Network
To provide internet access to guests without sharing your main network resources, enable the Guest Network feature. This creates a separate Wi-Fi network with its own password, isolating guest devices from your primary network and connected devices.
5.3 Parental Controls
Manage and monitor internet access for children or other users. Parental Controls allow you to:
- Block specific websites or categories.
- Set time limits for internet usage.
- Schedule internet access for specific devices.
5.4 TP-Link Tether App
The TP-Link Tether app provides an intuitive way to manage your router from your smartphone or tablet. Download the app from the App Store or Google Play. With Tether, you can:
- Set up the router quickly.
- Manage network settings.
- Monitor connected devices.
- Control parental settings.
5.5 WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)
The WPS button on your router allows you to connect WPS-compatible devices to your Wi-Fi network without entering the password. Simply press the WPS button on the router, then activate WPS on your device within two minutes.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps ensure the optimal performance and security of your router:
- Firmware Updates: Periodically check the TP-Link website for new firmware versions. Updating your router's firmware can improve performance, add new features, and fix security vulnerabilities.
- Regular Reboots: Rebooting your router every few weeks can resolve minor network issues and improve stability. Simply unplug the power adapter for 10 seconds, then plug it back in.
- Optimal Placement: Place your router in a central location, away from obstructions (like thick walls or large metal objects) and sources of interference (like microwaves or cordless phones), to maximize Wi-Fi coverage.
- Network Security: Regularly change your Wi-Fi passwords and router login password. Use strong, unique passwords for both.
- Physical Cleaning: Keep the router clean and free of dust to prevent overheating. Ensure proper ventilation.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your router, try the following troubleshooting steps:
- No Internet Access:
- Check all cable connections between the modem, router, and your computer. Ensure they are secure.
- Verify that your modem is working correctly.
- Reboot both your modem and router.
- Check the Internet LED on the router; it should be solid green.
- Slow Wi-Fi Speed or Frequent Disconnections:
- Ensure your router is placed in an optimal location, free from interference.
- Try connecting to the 5GHz band for faster speeds if your device supports it.
- Reduce the number of devices connected to the network or limit bandwidth-intensive activities.
- Update your device's wireless adapter drivers.
- Cannot Access Router's Web Management Page:
- Ensure your device is connected to the router (wired or wirelessly).
- Verify that you are typing the correct address: http://tplinkwifi.net or http://192.168.0.1.
- Clear your browser's cache and cookies, or try a different browser.
- Temporarily disable any firewall or antivirus software on your computer.
- Forgot Router Login Password:
- If you cannot recall your router's login password, you will need to perform a factory reset.
- Factory Reset:
- With the router powered on, use a pin or paperclip to press and hold the Reset button on the rear panel for approximately 5-10 seconds until the LEDs flash.
- Release the button. The router will reboot with factory default settings. You will need to reconfigure it from scratch.
