- Keep children, bystanders, and pets at least 50 feet (15 meters) away from the operating area.
- Do not operate the blower in wet conditions or near flammable liquids/gases.
- Ensure all guards and safety devices are in place and functioning correctly before starting.
- Always inspect the equipment for loose parts, damage, or leaks before each use.
- Use only the recommended fuel mixture (gasoline and 2-stroke oil at a 50:1 ratio).
- Never operate the engine indoors or in poorly ventilated areas.
Setup
1. Unpacking and Assembly
Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Verify that all parts are present according to the packing list. Assembly typically involves attaching the blower tube and throttle control to the main unit.
- Attach the flexible hose to the blower outlet on the main unit, securing it with the provided clamp.
- Connect the rigid blower tubes to the flexible hose, ensuring a snug fit.
- Mount the tube-mounted throttle control to the desired position on the blower tube, ensuring it is easily accessible during operation.
- Adjust the backpack straps for a comfortable and secure fit.
2. Fueling the Unit
The ECHO PB-580T requires a 50:1 gasoline to 2-stroke oil mixture. Use fresh, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 89 or higher. Use a high-quality 2-stroke engine oil specifically designed for air-cooled engines.
- Mix the fuel and oil in a separate, approved fuel container.
- Ensure the engine is off and cool before refueling.
- Carefully remove the fuel cap and fill the fuel tank, avoiding overfilling.
- Securely replace the fuel cap.
Operating Instructions
1. Starting the Engine (Cold Start)
- Place the blower on a flat, stable surface.
- Move the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
- Push the primer bulb 8-10 times until fuel is visible in the return line.
- Move the choke lever to the "COLD START" position.
- Pull the starter handle firmly and smoothly until the engine attempts to start (usually 1-3 pulls).
- Once the engine "pops" or attempts to start, move the choke lever to the "RUN" position.
- Pull the starter handle again until the engine starts.
- Allow the engine to warm up for 30-60 seconds before applying full throttle.
2. Operating the Blower
- Wear the backpack blower comfortably on your back, adjusting straps as needed.
- Use the tube-mounted throttle control to adjust engine speed and air output.
- Direct the blower tube towards the debris you wish to move.
- Work in a sweeping motion to effectively clear leaves and other light debris.
- Avoid directing the air stream towards people, animals, or fragile objects.
3. Stopping the Engine
To stop the engine, simply move the ignition switch to the "OFF" position.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your ECHO PB-580T blower.
1. Air Filter Cleaning
- Remove the air filter cover.
- Carefully remove the air filter element.
- Clean the filter with warm, soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and allow it to air dry completely. Alternatively, replace with a new filter if heavily soiled or damaged.
- Reinstall the clean/new air filter and cover.
2. Spark Plug Inspection and Replacement
- Remove the spark plug boot and then the spark plug using a spark plug wrench.
- Inspect the spark plug for carbon buildup or damage. Clean with a wire brush if necessary.
- Check the electrode gap and adjust if needed (refer to specifications for correct gap).
- Replace the spark plug if it is worn or damaged.
- Reinstall the spark plug and boot, ensuring a snug fit.
3. Fuel System
- Periodically check fuel lines for cracks or leaks. Replace if damaged.
- For long-term storage, drain the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops to clear the carburetor of fuel.
4. General Cleaning
Keep the exterior of the blower clean and free of debris. Regularly clean cooling fins to prevent overheating.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Engine will not start | No fuel, incorrect choke position, fouled spark plug, clogged fuel filter. | Check fuel level and mixture, adjust choke, clean/replace spark plug, replace fuel filter. |
| Engine runs poorly or stalls | Dirty air filter, old/stale fuel, incorrect carburetor adjustment. | Clean/replace air filter, use fresh fuel, consult a service technician for carburetor adjustment. |
| Loss of power | Clogged air filter, worn spark plug, carbon buildup in exhaust. | Clean/replace air filter, replace spark plug, have exhaust system serviced. |
