5. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to start and operate your EBERTH diesel engine.

Starting the Engine (E-start):

  1. Ensure the engine is properly set up with oil and fuel.
  2. Turn the fuel valve to the 'ON' position.
  3. Set the throttle lever to the 'START' or 'CHOKE' position if the engine is cold.
  4. Insert the ignition key and turn it to the 'START' position. Hold until the engine starts.
  5. Once the engine starts, release the key, and it will return to the 'RUN' position.
  6. Gradually move the throttle lever to the desired operating speed.

Starting the Engine (Recoil Start):

  1. Ensure the engine is properly set up with oil and fuel.
  2. Turn the fuel valve to the 'ON' position.
  3. Set the throttle lever to the 'START' or 'CHOKE' position if the engine is cold.
  4. Grasp the recoil starter handle firmly and pull it slowly until resistance is felt.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of your EBERTH diesel engine. Always ensure the engine is off and cooled before performing any maintenance.

Maintenance Schedule:

  • Before Each Use: Check engine oil level, check fuel level, inspect air filter for cleanliness.
  • Every 20 Hours or Monthly: Clean air filter, check and clean fuel filter (if applicable), inspect all fasteners for tightness.
  • Every 50 Hours or 3 Months: Change engine oil, inspect spark plug (if applicable, though this is a diesel engine), check valve clearance (professional service recommended).
  • Every 100 Hours or 6 Months: Clean fuel tank, inspect fuel lines, replace air filter element.

Detailed Maintenance Steps:

  1. Oil Change: With the engine warm, place a drain pan under the oil drain plug. Remove the drain plug and oil fill cap to allow oil to drain completely. Reinstall the drain plug and refill with the recommended oil type and quantity.
  2. Air Filter Cleaning/Replacement: Remove the air filter housing cover. Take out the air filter element. Clean foam elements with warm, soapy water, rinse, and allow to dry completely before re-oiling lightly. Replace paper elements if dirty or damaged.
  3. A person performing maintenance on the engine, possibly cleaning or replacing a component.

Performing maintenance on the engine, such as air filter inspection.

  4. Battery Maintenance (for E-start models): Check battery terminals for corrosion and clean if necessary. Ensure battery fluid levels are adequate for lead-acid batteries (if not sealed). The battery recharges automatically during engine operation.
