Your guide to safe and efficient operation.

1. Introduction

This instruction manual provides essential information for the safe and proper use of your ChiliTec Outdoor Socket with Twilight Sensor and Timer, Model 21887. This device is designed to automatically control outdoor lighting and other electrical appliances based on ambient light conditions and a set timer. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and operation, and retain it for future reference.

2. Safety Instructions

  • Electrical Safety: Always ensure the power supply is disconnected before installation or maintenance. Only connect the device to a properly grounded 230V/50Hz power outlet.
  • IP44 Rating: The robust plastic casing provides IP44 protection against splashing water. This means it is protected against water splashes from any direction. It is suitable for outdoor use but should be mounted in a suspended position and is not suitable for ground or submerged installation.
  • Power Load: Do not exceed the maximum power load of 2300W (10A). Overloading can cause damage to the device and pose a fire hazard.
  • Damage Inspection: Before each use, inspect the device and its cables for any signs of damage. Do not use a damaged device.
  • Children and Pets: Keep the device out of reach of children and pets.
  • Modifications: Do not attempt to modify or repair the device yourself. Contact qualified personnel for service.
  • Sensor Placement: Ensure the twilight sensor is not obstructed and is not exposed to direct artificial light sources at night, as this can interfere with its operation.

4. Setup

The ChiliTec Outdoor Socket is designed for quick and easy setup. It comes pre-assembled and ready to plug in.

  1. Placement: Choose a suitable outdoor location for the device. It should be mounted in a suspended position, away from direct ground contact, to ensure optimal performance and adherence to its IP44 rating. Ensure the twilight sensor is not obstructed by objects or structures.
  2. Initial Connection: Plug the device's input plug into a grounded 230V/50Hz outdoor power outlet.
  3. Calibration: Upon initial connection, the display will show 'F' and flash. Allow approximately one minute for the device to calibrate its twilight sensor. During this time, power will be supplied to the output socket.
  4. Connect Appliance: Once calibrated, connect your outdoor appliance (e.g., garden lights, pond pump) to the device's output socket. Ensure the protective cover is securely closed over the socket when not in use or when an appliance is connected.

5. Operating Instructions

The device offers several operating modes, controlled by a single selection button. The illuminated display indicates the current mode.

Operating Modes:

After the initial calibration (display shows 'F' and flashes), press the selection button to cycle through the following modes:

  • 'F' (Flashing): Calibration mode. If you need to recalibrate the sensor, press and hold the button for 4 seconds until 'F' flashes again. This is useful if the ambient light conditions at the sensor's location have changed significantly.
  • 'd': Dusk-to-Dawn mode. In this mode, the connected appliance will automatically turn on at dusk and turn off at dawn. The display will show a steady 'd' during the day and a flashing 'd' at night when the twilight sensor is active.
  • '1' to '9': Timer mode. The appliance will turn on at dusk and remain on for the selected number of hours (1 to 9 hours). For example, '3' means it will turn off 3 hours after dusk.
  • '0': Deactivation mode. The output socket is deactivated, and no power is supplied to the connected appliance.

To select a mode, simply press the button until the desired mode ('d', '1'-'9', or '0') appears on the display. The device will automatically save the selected setting.

Automatic Switching Delays:

  • Turn-on Delay: Approximately 35 seconds. This delay prevents accidental switching due to brief changes in light conditions (e.g., car headlights).
  • Turn-off Delay: Approximately 15 minutes. After the ambient brightness changes consistently (e.g., sunrise), the device waits for about 15 minutes before turning off. This prevents premature deactivation due to temporary shadows or passing clouds.

6. Maintenance

The ChiliTec Outdoor Socket is designed for durability and requires minimal maintenance.

  • Cleaning: Disconnect the device from the power supply before cleaning. Wipe the exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Protective Cover: Always ensure the protective cover on the output socket is securely closed when not in use or when an appliance is connected, to maintain its IP44 weather resistance.
  • Sensor Cleanliness: Keep the twilight sensor clean and free from dirt, dust, or obstructions to ensure accurate light detection.
  • Storage: If storing the device for an extended period, disconnect it from the power supply and store it in a dry, protected environment.
