Operating Your Telescope

Eyepieces

The telescope comes with two Kellner eyepieces: a 20mm and a 10mm. The 20mm eyepiece provides a lower magnification and a wider field of view, ideal for locating objects. The 10mm eyepiece offers higher magnification for more detailed observations once an object is centered.

Focusing

To achieve a clear image, use the focus knobs located on the focuser. The integrated focus micrometer is a numbered scale that indicates the focuser’s position. This allows for quick return to a specific focus point for particular targets, such as a bird's nest during terrestrial viewing or infinity focus for celestial objects.

Finder Scope

The large projected reticle finder scope assists in quickly locating objects in the night sky. Align the finder scope with the main telescope during daylight hours by pointing the telescope at a distant, stationary object and adjusting the finder scope until the object is centered in its reticle.

Integrated Smartphone Adapter

The lens cap features a built-in smartphone adapter for basic astrophotography. To use it:

  1. Place your smartphone against the rubberized friction surface on the outside of the lens cap, ensuring your camera lens aligns with the imaging port.
  2. Secure the smartphone using the two adjustable bungee cords.
  3. The inside of the lens cap has a fitting that secures to your eyepiece using two set screws.
  4. Once attached to the eyepiece, you can capture images through the telescope with your smartphone.

Built-in Red LED Flashlight

The mount head includes a red LED flashlight. This flashlight provides a soft red glow to illuminate your accessory tray, preserving your night vision. It can also be removed from the mount for use as a portable red light source.

Altazimuth Mount

The Inspire 100AZ features a solid altazimuth mount with an asymmetrical design, offering both lightweight portability and stability. This type of mount allows for intuitive up-and-down (altitude) and left-and-right (azimuth) movement, making it easy to track celestial objects.

Maintenance

Proper care and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Celestron Inspire 100AZ Refractor Telescope.

  • Cleaning Optics: Use a soft, lint-free cloth specifically designed for optical surfaces. Avoid touching the lens surfaces with your fingers. For stubborn spots, use a specialized optical cleaning solution sparingly.
  • Cleaning the Body: Wipe down the telescope's body and mount with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the telescope in a dry, dust-free environment. Keep the lens caps on when not in use to protect the optics. If storing for extended periods, consider using the original packaging or a padded case.

Troubleshooting

Here are some common issues and their potential solutions:

  • Blurry Images: Ensure the focuser is properly adjusted. Check that the eyepiece is fully inserted and secured. Atmospheric conditions can also affect image clarity.
  • Difficulty Finding Objects: Verify that the finder scope is correctly aligned with the main telescope. Start with the lowest magnification eyepiece (20mm) for a wider field of view to locate objects, then switch to higher magnification.
  • Wobbly View: Ensure all tripod leg clamps and the accessory tray lock knob are tightened. The mount should be stable on a flat surface.
