Assembly

The French press typically comes pre-assembled. If disassembly is required for cleaning or replacement, ensure the glass carafe is securely seated within the plastic frame. The plunger assembly should fit smoothly into the top of the carafe.

Initial Cleaning

Before first use, wash all parts in warm, soapy water, then rinse thoroughly. The glass carafe and plunger assembly are dishwasher safe. Ensure all soap residue is removed.

Operating Instructions: Brewing Coffee

Follow these steps for a perfect cup of French press coffee:

  1. Preheat: If desired, preheat the glass carafe by rinsing it with hot water. Discard the water.
  2. Add Coffee Grounds: For every 4 oz (120 ml) of water, add 1 rounded tablespoon (7 grams) of coarse ground coffee to the carafe. Adjust to taste.
  3. Add Hot Water: Pour hot (not boiling) water over the coffee grounds. The ideal water temperature is between 195°F and 205°F (90°C-96°C). Stir gently with a non-metal spoon.
  4. Place Plunger: Place the plunger assembly on top of the carafe, with the lid covering the opening. Do not press down yet.
  5. Steep: Allow the coffee to steep for 4 minutes for a rich, full-bodied flavor. Adjust steeping time for desired strength.
  6. Press: Slowly and steadily press the plunger straight down. Apply gentle, even pressure. Do not force the plunger.
  7. Serve: Pour the freshly brewed coffee into your cup immediately. Do not let coffee sit in the French press with the grounds, as it will continue to extract and may become bitter.

Coffee tastes bitterOver-extraction due to too long steeping time or fine grounds; water too hot.Reduce steeping time, use coarse grounds, or ensure water temperature is not above 205°F (96°C).
