1. Introduction

2. Setup

2.1 Unpacking and Placement

  1. Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Ensure all packing materials are removed from the robot and charging base.
  2. Place the Home Base charging station on a hard, level surface against a wall. Ensure there are no obstacles within 1.5 feet (0.5 meters) on either side of the Home Base and at least 4 feet (1.2 meters) in front of it.
  3. Plug the power cord into the Home Base and then into a wall outlet. Ensure the Home Base light illuminates.

2.2 Initial Charge

  • Place your Roomba onto the Home Base. The light ring around the CLEAN button will pulse white to indicate it is charging.
  • Allow the robot to charge for at least 3 hours before its first cleaning cycle. A full charge is indicated by a solid white light ring.

2.3 Connecting to Wi-Fi and App Setup

  1. Download the iRobot HOME App from your device's app store (available for iOS and Android).
  2. Open the app and follow the on-screen instructions to connect your Roomba 960 to your home Wi-Fi network. This will enable smart features, scheduling, and remote control.
  3. Ensure your Wi-Fi network is 2.4 GHz for optimal compatibility.

3. Operating Your Roomba 960

3.1 Starting a Cleaning Cycle

  • Press the CLEAN button on the robot or tap the CLEAN button in the iRobot HOME App. The robot will begin its cleaning cycle, intelligently navigating your home.
  • The Roomba 960 uses iAdapt 2.0 Navigation with Visual Localization to map its environment and track its location, ensuring comprehensive coverage.

3.2 Pausing and Resuming

  • To pause a cleaning cycle, press the CLEAN button once.
  • To resume, press the CLEAN button again.

3.3 Sending Roomba Home

  • To send the robot back to its Home Base during a cleaning cycle, press the Home button on the robot or tap the Home button in the iRobot HOME App.
  • The robot will return to the Home Base to recharge.

3.5 Virtual Wall Barriers

The Roomba 960 comes with Virtual Wall Barriers (sold separately or included in some bundles) that create invisible barriers to keep your robot in or out of specific rooms or areas. Place them in doorways or near objects you want Roomba to avoid.

4. Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for keeping your Roomba 960 operating at peak performance. The iRobot HOME App will notify you when maintenance is required.

4.1 Emptying the Dust Bin

Empty the dust bin after each cleaning cycle or when the full bin indicator illuminates.

  1. Press the bin release tab and pull out the bin.
  2. Open the bin door and empty debris into a trash can.

4.2 Cleaning the Filter

Clean the filter at least once a week, more often if you have pets.

  1. Remove the filter by grasping the yellow tab.
  2. Tap the filter against a trash can to dislodge debris. Do not wash the filter.
  3. Reinsert the filter.

4.3 Cleaning the Brushes

Clean the multi-surface rubber brushes at least once a week, more often if you have pets.

  1. Pinch the brush frame release tabs to open the brush frame.
  2. Remove the brushes and remove any hair or debris wrapped around them or the brush caps.
  3. Reinstall the brushes and close the brush frame.

4.4 Cleaning the Caster Wheel

Clean the front caster wheel regularly to ensure smooth movement.

  • Pull firmly on the front wheel to remove it.
  • Remove any hair or debris from inside the wheel cavity.
  • Reinstall the wheel.

4.5 Cleaning the Sensors and Charging Contacts

Wipe the sensors and charging contacts on the robot and Home Base with a clean, dry cloth monthly.

5. Troubleshooting

If your Roomba encounters an issue, it will play an audible alert and the CLEAN button light ring will flash. Consult the iRobot HOME App for detailed troubleshooting steps.
