The PLX-500 features a built-in phono equalizer (preamplifier) and line output, allowing direct connection to powered speakers or an amplifier without a dedicated phono input.
- Direct Connection to Speakers: Connect the RCA output cables from the turntable directly to the line input of your powered speakers.

Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your PLX-500, refer to the following common solutions:
- No Sound or Low Volume:
- Check the PHONO/LINE switch on the rear of the turntable. Ensure it matches the input type on your amplifier or speakers.
- Verify all audio cables are securely connected.
- If using an external preamp, ensure it is powered on and correctly connected.
- Poor Sound Quality (Distortion, Muffled Sound):
- Clean the stylus. A dirty stylus can significantly degrade sound quality.
- Ensure the tonearm's counterweight and anti-skating settings are correctly calibrated. Incorrect settings can lead to tracking issues and distortion.
- Check the condition of your records. Scratched or dirty records will produce poor sound.
- Consider upgrading the cartridge or stylus if the current one is old or damaged.
- Incorrect Platter Speed:
- Verify the correct speed (33, 45, or 78 RPM) is selected.
- Check the voltage selector switch under the platter to ensure it matches your region's power supply.
- Adjust the tempo slider to fine-tune the speed.
- Humming Noise:
- Ensure the turntable is properly grounded. While the PLX-500 does not have a separate ground connector, ensure all components in your audio chain are correctly grounded.
- Move the turntable away from other electronic devices that might cause interference.
