1. Introduction

2. Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety precautions before using your telescope. Failure to do so may result in injury or damage to the equipment.

• Never look directly at the Sun through your telescope or its finder scope without a professionally made solar filter. Permanent and irreversible eye damage, including blindness, can result.
• Do not leave the telescope unsupervised, especially when children are present.

3. What's in the Box

4. Assembly and Setup

Follow these steps to assemble your telescope. It is recommended to perform initial assembly indoors in a well-lit area.

4.1. Tripod Setup

1. Carefully remove the tripod from its packaging.
2. Spread the tripod legs outwards until they are fully extended and locked into place.
3. Adjust the height of the tripod legs to your desired viewing level. Ensure the tripod is stable and level using the integrated bubble level on the mount base.
4. Attach the accessory tray to the center spreader of the tripod. This provides additional stability and a convenient place for eyepieces.

4.2. Optical Tube Installation

1. Locate the dovetail bar on the optical tube and the dovetail clamp on the single fork arm mount.
2. Loosen the clamp knob on the mount.
3. Slide the optical tube's dovetail bar into the mount's clamp. Ensure the tube is balanced; the Celestron logo on the optical tube should be fully visible and slightly forward for proper balance.
4. Tighten the clamp knob securely to prevent the optical tube from slipping.

4.3. StarSense Camera and Accessories Installation

1. Attach the StarSense camera to its designated bracket on the optical tube. Secure it with the provided screws.
2. Connect the StarSense camera cable to the AUX port on the mount.
3. Insert the star diagonal into the visual back of the optical tube.
4. Insert the lowest power eyepiece (e.g., 40mm Plossl) into the star diagonal and secure it with the thumbscrew.
5. Attach the finder scope to its bracket on the optical tube.

4.4. Initial Battery Charge

The NexStar Evolution features an internal rechargeable Lithium Metal battery. Before first use, fully charge the battery. Connect the provided power supply to the mount's power input and plug it into a wall outlet. The charging indicator light will blink during charging and become solid when fully charged. Initial charging typically takes 4 to 8 hours.

5. Operating Your Telescope

5.1. Powering On and Initial Alignment

1. Ensure the telescope is on a stable, level surface.
2. Turn on the power switch located on the mount.
3. StarSense AutoAlign: The StarSense camera will automatically capture images of the sky, identify star patterns, and align the telescope. This process typically takes a few minutes. For the very first use, you may need to perform a one-time manual calibration to align the StarSense camera with the telescope's optical axis. Refer to the StarSense manual for detailed calibration steps.
4. Once aligned, the hand controller or connected smart device will indicate readiness for observation.

5.2. Using the Hand Controller

The included hand controller allows for manual navigation and selection of celestial objects. Use the directional buttons to move the telescope and the menu buttons to access various functions like GoTo, alignment procedures, and utility settings.

5.3. WiFi Control with SkyPortal App

The NexStar Evolution features integrated WiFi for wireless control via your smartphone or tablet. Download the Celestron SkyPortal app from your device's app store.

1. Turn on the telescope. The mount will broadcast a WiFi signal.
2. Connect your smart device to the telescope's WiFi network (e.g., "Celestron-###").
3. Open the SkyPortal app. The app will automatically connect to the telescope.
4. Use the interactive sky map to select objects. The telescope will automatically slew to your chosen target.

• Dust on the front corrector plate should be removed with a camel hair brush or a can of compressed air.

• Never touch optical surfaces with bare hands.
